So fellas, what we've known for years has been confirmed by medical science*.

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeand...cting-man-flu-really-does-exist-claims-doctor

The fight against the ridicule of “man flu” has been taken up by a doctor who says, somewhat tongue-in cheek, that he delved into the issue after growing tired of being accused of overreacting.

[...]

The article, published in the British Medical Journal, involved a wry look at previous studies and put forward a number of strands of evidence that suggest men might really experience worse symptoms than women when it comes to viral respiratory illnesses.

Among them, the author points out that mouse studies have suggested that testosterone could dampen immune response to influenza, while certain female sex hormones could boost it.
This is great stuff, showing that the worse your slightly runny nose incapacitating influenza-induced respiratory failure is, the more manly you must be!:)

I'm off to show my missus this report - I'll report back when the bruising has healed.

*not really, but seeing as no one reads these articles properly anyway it's good enough to back our plight :D

I never really get ill so it's kind if hard to have sympathy for others who are sick. I do think some men get over dramatic when they get a bit of a cold but so do a lot a women to be fair but they just can't call it man flu.

i dont normally get colds/flu but it seems when i do it's almost always bad, tend to be more prone to splitting headaches

the one i love is when someone tells me i should go see a doctor- like he's going to say anything other than sit in bed with a hot lemsip and wait for it to die down which i'd kind of already figured out.

Whenever I get a cold I have a buildup of about 3 days, then I wake up one morning and feel like death itself, unable to talk properly, unable to breathe properly, painful coughing, headache etc and often have to have a day off work because I'd be useless (phone calls etc), then there are a couple more days of slightly lessened death, and then I have about two weeks of dry coughing and sniffling... :( :p

Similar here.

Decent diet, regular exercise, keeping yourself hydrated, plenty of sleep and a big cup of MTFU and you'll likely never suffer too much from a common cold.

I doubt many maintain a similar lifestyle however :D

I have an awful diet, I don't exercise (aside from around an hour of walking a day), I always forget to drink, I struggle to sleep, and I'm a wimp. :(

Sounds like me!

My missus still expects the same level of functionality despite having a nose streaming snot like a tap left on full and a chest feeling like it's done ten rounds with a very angry gorilla punching me with bricks....

Or; "What the hell are you doing in my waiting room you virulent plague bomb!".

People who go to the doctors with a cold are morons.

Not only because it is a waste of time for them and for the doctor, but also because they are exposing people in the waiting room to the common cold, when they might do well not to catch it because of a more serious ailment they are suffering with already.

An hour of walking a day is good going mind you.

Just to and from the train station for work. :p

Joys of working in Brighton and living a 25 minute walk from the train station... I need a bike!

Manflu is very real, I know because I'm currently dying from it. Went to bed last night with a slight sniffle, woke up this morning feeling like death warmed up.
  • Constant;y running nose
  • Dry throat & coughing
  • Banging headache
  • Dull ache all over my body
  • Shivering, even though I'm warm
  • No appetite whatsoever

Went to bed Tuesday night feeling absolutely fine. Woke up 6 hours later with my throat feeling like I'd swallowed a hedgehog and unable to breath through my nose. How is that even possible? Today equally as bad but nose switching between totally blocked and streaming every hour or so, banging headache and slight nausea. Better now than Christmas I suppose.
