Man makes guns with a 3D printer

3d printing and hobbyist CNC is really getting fascinating now. Smaller companies are able to produce product which they would never have been able to do previously. It's awesome.

As to the foolish pedancy it's simple.

Originally refuted quote stated that : You cannot make a function gun's bullet with the 3d printer.

This is correct.

To use the very original analogy:

A car is not a functioning car if it explodes when you put petrol in and turn the ignition. It is a replica. Regardless of the fact that all parts move how they should, and are identical in dimension to the original vehicle. It simply doesn't work.

Yes I could push it along, tow it, or fire it out of a catapult and it would move and even transport people as it should, but that wouldn't make it a functioning car.

The functional 3d printed bullet, by definition, needs to work as the original. Throwing it at someone doesn't make it functional as a gun's bullet, it makes it functional as a projectile. To state otherwise is silly and simple hole digging.

He did indeed technically print a firearm because the only part of an ar15 the government recognizes as a firearm is the lower receiver which he printed. Thats the only part that has to go through a dealer, all the rest including ammo can be bought off the shelf.

You're allowed to make guns yourself as long as you dont sell it to anyone.

3d printings days are now numbered?

Manufacturing will be destroyed won't it?

no and no.

It's pretty easy to make a gun with a workshop.

Also 3d printers can do some stuff really well, but think about most of the products you on, it simply can't do them. It can't print a phone, tv, stove, car, clothes etc.

I'd suspect the people who make weed grinders are worried though. :D

that's actually just an AR15 with a plastic receiver, the rest of the components are all still Steel/Aluminium

The upper and lower receiver is made of carbon fiber composite instead of aluminium. There are other companies that make polymer ones.
