Along with Mr. Robertson, my legendary latin teacher, Raistlin Majere was my childhood inspiration for being sarcastic to people! I've even cut my pupils into hourglass shapes to be like him (I haven't). Even now I am sometimes sarcastic to people when the occasion warrants it.
 
Hahaha, just realised I said ignore than ignorant in the same sentence. :p

My point is that ignoring people is just narrowing your viewpoint.

Unless someone is personally attacking you, well in that case you should tell a Don.

Someone said to me the other day in reply to a sarcastic comment I made to them......(she was being systematically and unecessarily rude to a young cashier in M&S)

'Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, you know'

To which I replied....

'Yes Madam, however it is still Wit, which is eminently preferable to being Witless...don't you think?'

Anyway, her companion nearly collapsed in apoplexy and she 'hurrumphed' and walked off......

You are to be congratulated upon an almost Churchillian comeback, sir! In the heat of the moment I would probably have just said "And you madam, have a pig's face", then walked away while a thousand better insults spring to mind.
