Man trapped between train and platform

Chuffing awful, not much chance by the sound of things, but I hope me makes it through ok.

It does seem a silly design, I realise loads of people have used it without incident, but you'd expect in this day an age that there would be load sensors of some form, or gap sensors or something.

Owch that looks very painful. I hope the guy makes a recovery.

IT looks dangerous butobviously isn't that bad as this is the first accident. What is very worrying is that it took 20 minutes to manually open.

An emergency release button would be a good idea imho.

I remember reading something like this many years back when people become stuck between the platform and under ground train in the usa, and 9 times out of ten when the fire service e.t.c turned up they say we are looking at a dead man even thou the person is still alive because the bottom half of the body has twisted and once the train was moved then you can guess the rest.

ps.I am aware that this is a little different just thought i would offer some useless information.

There was a program with a camera fixed in new york cabs and they had an EMT rescue guy in the back and the taxi driver asked him whats the worst thing he has to go to. The scenario above is what he described.

He said because the spinal cord is broken they can't feel any pain so think they are ok. the pressure caused between platform and train is holding everything together so they think the're ok. The EMT said they try and get the family down to say good bye. Its a very sad scenario in that the rescue will kill them.

How on Earth did he fall into that gap? I can't see how it's possible.

I know - look at the videos on page 2(?). Firstly, there is the fact that the platform doesn't extend until the train is stopped, and it seems from the video that the doors open after the platform is in place. So how on earth did he fall down there?

I recognised the photo straight away as I get on and off the train at that exact spot several times a week. The train doors don't open until it's moved into place so he must have been waiting to get on and not been paying attention?

I've seen a lot worse pics where a guys head is crushed between the train and the platform :(.

Can't post pics or links on here for obvious reasons.
