Managed network switch - use in any port?

Morning all, could use a bit of quick advice before my IT department start for the day!

I'm using a Cisco Catalyst 2960 network switch for a few laptops at work today, and someone has mentioned to me that it should only be plugged into a specific network socket, and that if it's plugged into a different one it will cause all sorts of issues for the rest of the building because the switch is configured to a specific network socket only.

Does that sound right? I'm loathe to just plug it in and hope for the best!

Depends on the switch configuration and the config of the rest of the Network. If you don;t know then I wouldn't risk it

Well one of the users just plugged it in and switched it on before I got to it and everything seems to be working. Fingers crossed I don't send the company spiralling into oblivion....
