Manager Merry Go Round 2014

Today is a fantastic day for Manchester United. Louis van Gaal is a great appointment and let me begin by telling you how delighted I am to be working with someone of his calibre. His credentials are second to none and I’m positive the club will thrive under his leadership over the coming years.

I would also like to take this opportunity to announce my retirement from professional football and embark upon a new and exciting chapter in my life, as assistant manager of Manchester United. I am immensely proud, honoured and fortunate to have represented the biggest club in the world 963 times and Wales 64 times. My dream was always to play for Manchester United, and although it saddens me to know I won’t be pulling on a United jersey again as a player, I have been lucky enough to have fulfilled that dream playing with some of the best players in the world, working under an incredible manager in Sir Alex Ferguson, and most of all, playing for the greatest fans in world football. I have always felt and appreciated your support.

I want to also give a huge thanks to the backroom staff and support teams we have and have had at Manchester United over the years. I would not have achieved the success I have without your continuing dedication and commitment to creating the best environment to enable the players to thrive. I would not have won 34 trophies in my career without you. I would also like to say a special thanks to my friends and family for all your love and support.

For me, today is a new chapter filled with many emotions - immense pride, sadness, but most of all, excitement towards the future. United fans I hope will share and echo my belief that the club, the management and owners, are doing everything they can to return this great club to where it belongs, and I hope to be there every step of the way. To the greatest fans in world football, thank you, I have loved every minute of playing for you and representing the biggest and best club in the world.

See you next season.

Can we have a sweepstake on the first United fan on here to tell us:

He's clueless
He Doesn't know what he's doing
Stupid appointment
No Plan B
Why no Kagawa?

You can keep beating the Moyes drum, fact of the matter is, he was out of his depth massively :)

He's not said we "might" or we'll "try" to do anything yet ;)

Sime of the players attitude early in the season certainly didnt help any

Oh no I completely agree, I've said before the players have to take some of the blame but then again, is it not Moyes' job to motivate those players?

One of the things that always came out in the Fergie era is that the team never rested on their laurels and were ready to challenge again as soon as they had won the last trophy. You would have thought that losing Fergie would have motivated them to try and do even better the following season.

That is down to Moyes and his coaching staff. I mean making Rio and Vidic watch a video of how Jagielka defends, give me a break.

Gimp when you said in the earlier thread you didn't want to argue with newer/fair-weather fans hence didn't vote on whether he should be sacked or not surely the majority would've been in agreement with you and there wouldn't have been much arguing :p?

Frank is the only one I can recall defending him most of the time and Loki had that one post I can remember saying he deserves time to build, wtf were you worried about arguing if you think he was garbage

It's quite simple, I don't argue like normal people :)

I know, as I have said he was nothing like the manager with his words he was at Everton. It got to him and where he would bang heads together at Everton he didn't have the bottle at Manu. For starter he should have kicked Rio to training with the youth team. For whatever reason he had the balls to tackle Zaha but not the others.

If I was a manger at a club these days I would have a social media ban in the contract unless it was managed by the club. Keanes comments on Rio did make me laugh.

Keane was right, imagine if Keane was around when Moyes was there, it would have been a mass walkout.

I didn't realise asking a question was grilling someone

You never said at the time and I was interested as I assumed you wanted to keep him hence not stating your opinion

It's a question you've asked several times, that's a grilling.

I never wanted him in the first place but could see why he was chosen, it's easy to criticise now it has all played out but at the time I was prepared to give him time, that was until it became apparent he didn't have the balls for it.

What I meant by fair weather fans are the one's that appeared all of a sudden out of nowhere telling everyone how they knew from the start he was the wrong man and giving us their 'expert' opinions, luckily on here we tend to realise who those people are pretty quickly and then pay them no lip service.

In days gone by, I would have called them ****s and sat in suspension for eternity :)

always thought it was a falacy that someone else can motivate you - always thought it came from within ( like Giggs, even if he is a one off).

A team of motivated sportsman one season, to a team that struggles to beat cannon fodder at home and in most cases lost?

That's down to two very different managers.

Levy needs to give the guy a chance, a Spurs fan I work with (season ticket holder) says the fans are losing patience with the chopping and changing and turning on Levy despite everything he's done.

Did you know Mauricio Pochettino conceded the penalty David Beckham scored against Argentina in the 2002 World Cup?
