Is it possible to manage Office 2007 using Active Directory 2003?

One of the main things we want to be able to do is manage the file save as so users can save into .doc, .xls etc instead og .docx, xlsx...

We are about to upgrade Office from 2003 to 2007 on all our Citrix servers but when we do this our companies clients will not be able to open our documents because everyone will ignore save-as and use save

Thanks

There are 'plugins' available for each office product.

Just grab the Word/Excel ones, add them to GPMC and adjust the default save option :)

Can't seem to find a link to them at the mo, was on the MS website.

Edit - This is them I think - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...9a-e143-4aee-8f7a-e4bbaeba13e7&displaylang=en

Nope, they are for Windows server 2008 unfortunately, not 2003

Zap, could I get some more info please. Would be great to know how to manage save defaults and other stuff like the stupid 'academic' 1.5 line spacing

Thanks

Thanks guys. Just about to do this now

JonnyT - On your other post there are 12 files listed. What is inf12.opa and inf12.adm? Are these needed too

Think im missing something simple here - Ive added the office settings for saving 2000-2003 word and excel. The scope is set to test OU and security filtering as the test user in GP. I have moved the computer to a test OU in AD.

Also done a forced gpupdate then restarted the test machine. word and excel are still saving in .docx and .xlsx ?

Yep, think i might have found the cause. We are using office 2007 SP1. Just downloading SP2 now.

gpresult /v flashes through a load of stuff then disappears. How do you make it stop at the end?

edit - I cant seem to find an option to set line spacing in Word 2007, is it possible called something like remove white space or nothing referring to line spacing or paragraph options?

Sorted now, i ran the modelling and most the GPOs were denied. I added the user in Test instead of machine as it is user settings afterall.

Dont really see the point in security filtering if the user isnt in the link location in the first place

There are some registry keys that can be altered to force the default to be .doc and .xls etc.

You could run these in a startup script if there is no other alternative.

inf12.adm (and .opa) are for InfoPath

From the Start menu click on Help and Support, then click the Support on the top menu, then click Advanced System Information in the lower left, then click View Group Policy settings applied and this will give you a pseudo HTML type page view, you can also export to HTM format from this page.
