Managing your movie collection?

Kodi (XBMC's new name) will do all of what you want for you.

Install Kodi
Go into the 'Videos' section, Files, Add Library.

Select your media share
ie..

\\nas\movies

Tell it what source type it is (select Movies), go to the Settings option in that screen, change it to IMDB ratings.

Hit Ok/Next and it will scan the video filenames and download all the artwork, movie info, imdb rating and build a Movies menu for you on the main screen.

----

Now go into 'Movies' and it will have all your films listed there with a nice GUI. You can press Left, or Up, Left to tweak the GUI.

I'd get comfortable with the default skin before adding any addons or making any changes. Better to know the program inside out before fiddling imo..

Hi, Sorry I missed this post, will it actually update the tags/details for the movie file? Ive got a lot of files and its in a bit of a mess...

It pulls the info from https://www.themoviedb.org/

As long as the file names match the movie name then you should be all good.
Sometimes it will get confused if the movie has been remade like Total Recall and you need to specify the year in the file name.

Don't forget there is a great file renamer called Filebot which I use on every film/programme I acquire.
Some people use The Renamer but I like Filebot better.
I've recently sent Filebot a donation because a message came up saying I have renamed over 2000 files.

For those who asked im using a Microserver running windows 7.

Kodi is a different animal altogether now that it has picked up the movies.

Has highlighted how much of a tidy up it all needs though!

The skin I use is 'Aeon Nox'

There are many skins to choose from and it's very customisable.

Personally, I like to leave it as default as possible.

I use tiny media manager and mpc-be for the player. from my tablet I use the mpc remote app. The only downside is that I don't have movie metadata on the tablet yet. I could use kodi but don't like the internal player. Most of the time I playing new films that are not part of my main collection and then the mpc remote is more effective as no meta data for it etc.

fantom, what did you find was slow on plex?
skipping, library loading, general interface?

I use Plex atm, but my server is pretty beefy so its speedy as anything.
