Ooh-la-la, felt glorious this morning whizzing round the M60 past Sale at 70, yes you read that right 70, and I ain't no law breaker.

It's open and cone free after 3 years!!!!

And on a non-spam note as that wasn't my intention, as I was doing 70 being over taken constantly, I noticed that the camber appears to be designed for faster than 70 traffic. Got me wandering if an 80 limit was being planned for on all new road works?

The M60 is not a particularly bendy motorway (has a few moments but gentle curves on the whole) yet the banks are really quite steep.

Thoughts?

I used to hate driving down the M60... Junction 6, 7, 8 and 9 were always confusing with all the cones and diversions!

Very happy to hear that it's finally clear of fat lazy council workers and bloody speed cameras.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Oh great. After 3 years of driving to Sheffield twice a week through these godforsaken roadworks, they have decided to finished it just as i finished uni and don't need to drive the route anymore.

I take it you live in liverpool and travel to sheffield for uni? You should have gone down the m6>m62>m60>m62 rather than the m56>m60>m62 :D.

No this is the widening works on the M60 which slowed about 5 miles of the outer ring road to 40mph.

I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that the bottleneck that is the Worsley roundabout (where I live) and Barton Bridge for the Trafford Centre were included but oh no, they take 3 years to widen a bit of the motorway I have never ever been stuck in traffic on and I travel daily!!!

No, that was completed a year or so back (for the second time around ). This is the M60 widening malarky that has been going on from Cheadle Royal round to the Trafford Centre on the M60.

I travelled m62 to trafford centre > m60 anti clockwise (trafford centre to M67) them M67 to Glossop and A57 to Sheffield (Snakes Pass)

Are we talking about the roadworks between junction 6 and 9?

Indeed the worst part is where the m62/m602/a57 all join the M60. It always affects the M62 going into manchester in the evening too as most of the traffic is wanting to head onto the M60 from there.

The thelwall viaduct is much improved now - all 4 lanes are open and usually all moves smoothly unless of course there is an accident anywhere in which case it grinds to a halt.

Ah right thats not too bad then thought you were going the other way. But yes it is them roadworks.

Only if you were having a race with a colleague attempting to perform a full circuit of the M60 in your lunch hour racing in opposite directions ;)

It's great. Finally after three years.... and three months late :D

Only downside is I'll stop getting 65mpg everytime I do Stockport to Stretford - managed a paltry 45mpg this afternoon with the aircon on.

They've also stuck traffic lights on the end of the Roscoe's sliproad (J2) and they were turned on for the first time this morning. Got a bit of a shock when they randomly went red and I was a 100yards away doing 70mph. It's a stupid stupid idea and whomever thought of it should be shot. The traffic on the motorway was flowing normally at around 60mph and even in a Fabia vRS I couldn't get up to the correct speed to merge properly. Stupid stupid idea.

It used to be horrid until about 5 years ago when I was doing Stockport to Stretford/Sale every day for work on what was then the M63. When the Oldham link was opened and the full ring road rechristened the M60, that removed a lot of traffic which was going the long way round the M63 and then up the M62 and sent it down the new link.

Barton is where they started the whole widening thing back when I was a kid. Took them about 2 years to add an extra lane in each direction on Barton Bridge. That must have been the mid-80s.
