Manchester United vs Liverpool 09/01/11 and other 3rd round FA Cup matches *SPOILERS*

Did he say it was all Woy's fault?

/sacrasm off, what did he say?

Basically it wasn't a penalty in his funny way, and do you just get a red for leaving the ground these days rhetorically.
Credited all the players effort.
Oh and Webb actually let play go on for a few seconds before blowing and was influenced by OT maybe?

Only skimmed through the thread but whoever it was who posted the comment about Munich should be permabanned. Nothing against the Don who made the decision but there's no place on here or anywhere for those sort of comments.

As for the game, the penalty was a joke but Gerrard deserved his red. I've got nothing against players making those sort of tackles if they're trying to win the ball, and I'm sure he did, but the game's gone soft and the rules state you can't jump in two footed anymore :(

Never really thought we had a chance to win today but I'm very pleased with the defensive side of the performance (all 4 defenders had great games) and I thought we looked to play it on the floor far more than we ever did under Roy. Certainly more confident about the remainder of the season than I ever was with Clown Shoes in charge of us :)

Agreed,
Unfortunately Gerrard has lost his discipline a bit and gone back to pre summer 2004 antics of being very rash, its been coming a bit since Rafa lost him and others in the dressing room.

The picture above about Gerrard stamp, rafael did something similar, but he had intent to go in two footed that made meireles chicken out or get a broken leg, whistle should have been blown there and yellow given, and the later incident wouldn't have occured.

Torres is hard to judge, played a lone man for 70minutes, looked okay and had a good handshake with kenny when he came off.

Sorry for being lazy but did someone say some **** was just standing outside the stadium doing airplane signs and shouting munich?
Nice to see where the ticket allocation goes to, can't people who join in on these songs be banned from football matches like they would for racism? Making fun of death might aswell be the same as making fun of skin colour.

The Football Association has opened an investigation after Liverpool winger Ryan Babel posted a digitally altered picture on Twitter of referee Howard Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt. :)

Should probably sort out the diving or the appauling standard of our best referee before they go investigating jokes of a picture he clearly took of RAWK or something.
Get your priorities straight FA, bunch of clowns.

Still no excuse, perhaps it was silly of FA to allow so many tickets to be sold, if it were just the corner section then it would have been ok, but this wasn't just some "oh its just a silly minority" thing, it was wave after wave of coins!

I hope CCTV captures a few, police had arrested a few Liverpool fans as our disabled section exit is next to a police interview room.

We open that top stand for other away teams, usually you might see a pie or two being thrown :p but you had to see the amount of coins being thrown it was a poor show by Liverpool fans.

Also not surprising to hear they destroyed the toilets too causing water damage, wonder if they nicked the fittings! ;)

No doubt a few fans from both sections need either arrested or banned from football stadiums completely as many cannot conduct themselves, Munich, Hysel, Hillsborough references and the throwing of anything should warrant you a ban.

Nuff said really to all the 'Pool fans crowing it was a dive

All that says is, we have a player who over exaggerates contact and that berbatov still dived, completely seperate incidents and each should be assessed on individual merit, completely pointless arguement.

Contact made in the match yesterday, no contact made on Saint Stevie in some of the others. Glass houses and all that

Contact was minimal to non existent and berba took another few steps.
Anyhoo, coming back with 'Gerrard dives', is completely irrelevant, it does not make it fair for berbatov to do it and each match/incident is treated separately. He cheated, we have reason to whine.

He took one more step and was off balance, at the time I didn't think it was a penalty and straight after when they showed it but if you look at where Webb is he couldn't have known how much contact there was.

Your defender shouldn't have even been sticking a leg out anyway, he was going nowhere. Asking for trouble dangling a leg in the box.

If Webb cant see it he relies on his assistant who had a clear view, but since your admitting he couldn't see it he just gave a penalty anyways, safer thing to do is not give a penalty if your linesman doesn't flag.
Wouldn't say he's biased, but shot under pressure.

He took another step and on the second decided to dive.

Again people bringing up gerrard I don't care, you can't say, he dives so I'll dive and that's my arguement. Or is it an eye for an eye on here?

No it's not an eye for an eye on here but when Liverpool fans are shouting and moaning because they thought it was a dive, it serves as a gentle reminder that your beloved Captain is more than capable of falling over himself.

I don't really care if the linesman saw it or not, fact of the matter is he gave the penalty because there was contact, now argue all you want about it, fact of the matter is, he gave it and Giggsy slotted it home.

End of :)

Again reminding me of Gerrards ability to go down easily is completely irrelevant. You just said Webb couldn't see if their was contact and you don't care if the linesman didn't give it, but now Webb saw the contact so he gave it?
Sir Ryan should have been sent of for his two footed of the ground tackle against Brum(bowyer), therefore since he didn't you cannot justify Gerrard being sent off against you just like I cannot justify that berbatov dived and it was cheating and never a penalty by that logic.

Hilarious how Babel getting probed by FA over a picture that's been on every club site or football forum for a few years, yet nothing done about Dimitars dive or webbs inconsistently **** refereeing

I reminded you because you asked! You didn't seem to understand why United fans bought Gerrard into it, I cleared that up for you I thought :/

WTF has Ryan Giggs got to do with it? I remember Ruddock not being sent off against Everton years ago but that doesn't mean it has any relevance here!

Babel is being probed because he is a professional footballer (debateable) and has publically come out and said the referee was a cheat, he's not your average Joe on a forum that is posting it for the LuLz and tbh if you don't understand that I can see why you struggle on here.

What has Gerrard got to do with this then, both assessments from completely different matches on whether a play dives or deserves sent off, just showing you why bringing up Gerrard is pointless.

He never suggested he was a cheat and if the FA had any clue on the context of most of babels twitter posts they'd realise it was a joke.
It's alright for players to be called cheats by other players and managers but referees aren't?
Sorry maybe I struggle because it defies common sense on how the FA is run and what they investigate and probe.

Strike a light!

You asked why MU fans were brining Gerrard into it, I expalined that it is hypocritical for Liverpool fans to call out anyone else when Gerrard is the worst for it. What don't you understand about that exactly?

He posted a picture of the referee wearing a United shirt, I don't think I should have to explain that one in great deal really and if Rio Ferdinad had posted it I would call him a stupid **** and said he should get what he deserves.

Well it's a bit hypocritical for United fans to call Gerrard a **** for his tackle when Sir Ryan deserved an early shower vs Brum( yes I realise he is a humble player but intent was there after bowyer had just left one late in on him).

Rafael landed right side of the ball, had meireles not pulled out there would have been contact anyways, so bit like saying if carsick pulled out.

The whole picture thing is difference of opinions, refereeing should be open to criticism from the public, pundit or played, bare in mind it was merely a joke, just happens with his record at OT abit of truth in it might be seen by some people.

Edit:@ Frank, I wasn't suggesting any club/player would be treated differently, just suggesting if they can't be open to critiscm and it undermines the game, go complain to FIFA and get in challenges like they have in NFL, fanning about fining players because they have a voice or a joke is stupid.

Not like fergie got punished for complaining of clattenberg a while back but fined for saying a refs fitness wasn't up to scratch, really no consistency considerin it's already stupid enough

Was it last 5 times United and Liverpool have met in cup matches the winning team lifts the trophy of that competition (some finals though?)
