Which is better? Which is the second city ? Which is bigger, which one has the better skyline? Which one has the better peoole? Which one has the better food?

I'm sure the biggest is Greater Manchester over "greater Birmingham" I noticed somewhere saying if all the boroughs merges together Greater Manchester as a city would be bigger than Chicago, that's pretty big init?

I know there is only really one way to find out....

I just can't do Birmingham. I sometimes argue that's simply because I've lived here for so long, but then I go on a night out and am reminded just how **** it is.

Manchester is a truly beautiful City that I feel is infinitely richer with culture and things to do (though of course, one of Birmingham's best features is it's hugely varied community, that's one of the things I love about it). My heart belongs to Liverpool though. I've yet to go to a City in England that makes me feel the same way Liverpool does when I'm there.

All cities have issues.

There is nothing special about Birmingham (Im near there), but there are some nice places to go with family and to eat or a night out. Wander too far away from the centre and youre at risk of being killed.

Only been to Manchester a couple times. It seems nice. There are some nice places to go with family and to eat or a night out. Wander too far from the centre and youre at risk of being killed.

Been to Liverpool once. It seems nice. There are some nice places to go with family and to eat or a night out. Wander too far from the centre and youre at risk of swapping your entire wardrobe for shell suits.

The badge of 2nd city is a non-achievement.

Both are crime riddled dumps and were probably used as part of Viktor Orban's landslide winning manifesto as a warning as to what might occur if Brussels had its way ;)

Live in Birmingham now, lived in Manchester before.

Manchester is a lovely city but has virtually nothing to do compared with Birmingham. The diversity across brum is so vast it is much more like a capital than Manchester.

I have spent an equal time in both and prefer Manchester overall.

If I had to choose a Northern city though, it would be Newcastle. Effectively lived there for 9 months and really enjoyed it.

Not been to Birmingham much but I live in Moss Side and some of it isn’t the nicest but on my last trip to Birmingham I had to pick some laptops up and it was a right poo hole. But I also met some people on holiday who lived in a nce part.

Manchester has better music.

I can't stand the madness of city life any more, living in the suburbs of Southampton in SO18 is just about tolerable, but I avoid the city centre as much as I can.

It won't happen anytime soon, but I'd be much happier living ~10 miles north west of here, on the edge of the South Downs and all that peace and quiet on the cat4 cycling hills.

Not sure about Manchester vs Birmingham, probably the former, but I've never explored the latter and last time I visited north of Manchester (Prestwich) was ~1990. Sometime ~1978 when I was a nipper we lived in Simister, but Google Maps shows that has changed massively over the decades!
