Two parts to this question...

First, if I wanted to get from Manchester Piccadilly train station to Ashton under Lime what's the best way to get there? Metro to Victoria then train? I take it the metro doesn't go that far east?

Second, any places that are nice to go out in the evening? Just places to have a quiet drink or two with a nice atmosphere?

Ashton under-lyne

About 300 buses go to Ashton, from piccadilly gardens, the marple train from piccadilly goes that way i believe.

Nice place to drink, KRO bar on piccadilly gardens, or the Oyster Bar at The Wheel.

You can also get trains there from Manchester Victoria.

Depends on what night, Norweigan Blue, Waxy o connors, lloyds and jim beans are all OK.

Metro goes right outside Victoria but it doesn't take long to walk from Picadilly to Victoria really. You will be wanting to look for the Stalybridge train as that stops right in the middle of Ashton.

They are OK, I personally would rather be at Taps, All Bar one, Dukes 92 etc etc.

And yeah, I was so careful with Piccadilly as well!

If you plan going to taps on a weekend you may need to book first.

Picadilly to Victoria will take you about 15-20 minutes to walk, just so you know.

Load up your taps with credit, and drink until empty, top up, repeat

The food there is pretty good too (if a little expensive as I recall)...
