Manchester

Where's best depends on where in didsbury your office is, what kind of budget you'll have, and what's important to you, peace and quiet, a garden, a driveway, easy access to bars. Between Chorlton, Withington, East and West Didsbury and maybe even Heaton Mersey/Moor you've got most combinations available to you.

A lot of South Manchester is nice, some good recommendations here. In a month or so I will be getting an apartment in the center, I can't wait! :D

Areas to avoid and to only go if you're desperare are: Whalley Range; Rusholme, Longsite, Levenshulme, Salford (technically not in Manchester apparently), Old Trafford has gone down the pan so avoid there and Moss Side. Firswood is okay'ish so consider that too.

Soem great suggestions in here. I've already checked out Rightmove and my budget would pretty much allow me a good sized house with garden or a quality flat.

I've lived and worked in London so am used to the hustle and bustle a major city brings!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

While i would agree with parts of Salford, (its a massive city in its own right which technically isnt in Manchester its in Greater Manchester) parts are very nice, just avoid the centre of Salford.

Lived in Urmston all my early life, i loved it there until they moved half of Moss Side to there whilst regeneration was going on!

True I'm from Walkden originally, hence I posted Worsley as a good place to live; just avoid everywhere else, thought Boothstown and most of Winton aren't too bad either:)

I lived in Manchester from 1994 to 2011 ( edinburgh for 5 years before). To be honest south Manchester is a bit of a dump. Didsbury is nice if you are comparing it to the rest of Manchester, but does not cut it if your used to London or Edinburgh. Transport to Didsbury from town is actually quite good... Cheep and lots of buses. Live in west Didsbury as there's more nice restaurants etc... East Didsbury is too student. If you want something nicer ( and have money ) look down Bowdon way.
