Personally I think it's wrong for us to be pandering to some convicted African terrorist by erecting a statute in his 'honour' in our Nations capital. What's next, a 9' Gerry Adams?

Well, he was leader of the ANC's armed wing that conducted a Guerilla war! Mandela has also admitted that the ANC, in its struggle against apartheid, also violated human rights.

Against the apartheid, once he was released his reconciliation significantly led to him being led as the first democratic leader of South Africa.

Do you know even know what an apartheid is? Do you truly understand his story?

We think alike, only this morning I was trying to picture statues of Gerry Adams and Martin Mcguiness next to Mandela's.

Wrong. He is an annoying man who was part of a terrorist/Guerilla movement. Enough money has been wasted on him without this stupid thing being built, waste of tax payers money.

Also didnt we (well BBC) go and plant him a garden a few years back?

Disraeli was instrumental in starting the British Empire.

Mandela famous for fighting against foreign rule and persecution.

Acts of terrorism? I don't agree with that. Guerilla warfare well yes, bad things well yes. But he was not a terrorist. It was needed to end apartheid.

I don't have a huge problem, but why have a statue of an African man, when there's so many English people worthy of statues. unless it was paid for out private funds or charities.

The Provisional IRA were described as Guerilla's by some quarters.

Mandela committed acts of terrorism. Lord Palmerston supported revolutions abroad. Lincoln conducted a bloody war. Lots of people died in all cases. They have statues because they fought for their beliefs and are considered by some to be great men and worthy of respect.
