Have you seen them before? I saw them at Reading 4/5 years ago and tbh I was a little disappointed.. I love the Manics but JDB just stood at the mic and reeled off song after song without emotion/moving :( I don't know if it was a one-off or if they are always like that live?

Nope they aren't always like.. though i have heard from other people that they can be a little dull on stage.

I saw them back in 2003 in Glasgow. It was definatly one of my favourite gigs I have ever been to! JDB got up on his amps at the end, wailing to the crowd. Top gig.. such a dam good sound too. The bass sounds actually stopped my natural heart rhythm in some parts ;)

That was with their greatest hits tour... i'm not too fond of their latest ablums.

Check the two recent live vids on the Manics site. It's clear that the break and the solo albums done them good because they seem to have the passion back for the first time in about a decade.

I can't wait for the Barras gig.

They're consistently voted into 'best live act' awards so I'd say its an unfair dismissal. I saw Reading though and I know what you mean: that show was perversely more for the 'fans' and wasnt their most energetic anyway.. usually a lot better :)

I've seen them a few times, they went through a patch of being, well, pretty dull stadium rockers... But the tour after the Holy Bible rerelease was very different, they actually seemed to be having fun. And also played IfwhiteAmerica, which was nice.

I saw them at the Nottingham Ice Arena in 2004 and they were excellent.
They had a really hard time of it - the control box got flooded and they were forced off stage for 15 minutes after only 15 on stage while that was sorted.
They got back on stage and James' repeater speakers stopped working and you could see he was struggling a little.
He was also having a slight problem with his voice, he was excellent but two days later and they had to cancel some dates as he lost his voice completely.
I also saw them at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 2005 I think it was and again they were really good.

They are playing Cambridge again on May 8th and I shall be doing everything I can to get tickets.
The Nottingham arena is big and they were good, I just want to see them again at a smaller venue where it all feels a lot more intermate.

to be honest there last 2 studio albums are a little slow for my liking

i think they peeked in '98

but will go to wolves to check them out (will be my 6th time)

I wasn't dismissing them overall, just asking if they were usually more "entertaining" than that - glad they are, I might be seriously tempted to get some tickets then :)

/goes off to fire up Phoenix Festival 1996 bootleg..

Well that went easier than planned.
Straight onto the ticketmaster.co.uk and two tickets purchased for Cambridge before the clock had reached 10:02.
Looking forward to 8th of May now.

Me, my fiancee and my parents just got four for the balcony at Cambridge. Personally I'd prefer down below but my fiancee hasn't really been to a gig and isn't a massive manics fan, and my mum and dad, although very cool are... well, they're old :D

Everyone expects the Manics to sell out. They never sold out the SECC the past two times they played there.

Yeah, but to ge fair the SECC holds about 4-5 times as many people as the Barras :) They sold out the Corn Exchange last time out, I think, and 2 nights at the Barras not so long ago.

I don't think that Corn Exchange gig was sold out, was it? It didn't look sold out...to me at least anyway. I'm pretty sure a couple of people I know got tickets on the door...

I might be lying though.
