Manners

Rude southerners.

This is not a thing I am familiar with at all. Actually the rudest people I encounter are those in London, especially on public transportation where people are like robots.

Down here the majority of people are polite, even the chavs.

ughh, people seem to have forgotten how to eat properly! So many people I notice who eat really noisily, talk with food in their mouth and no one bats an eyelid. I might well be a miserable git but it winds me up and I can't seem to understand how people can just ignore it lol.

I think it's because you live in London

A lot of things have changed over the years, including lending a hand to help another in need of help.

I have lived in roughly 10 countries over the years and it's the same problem in each, so I guess times have changed for the worse.

:(

GD, pictured right yesterday, opines on why they are an excellent driver.

I've just been for coffee with a colleague in Canary Wharf and as the lift arrived at my floor two people from my own firm just tried to walk into the lift as I was trying to walk out and didn't stop forcing me to twist to avoid a collision :(

Because they sense you are beta, you need to be alpha and they won't dare risk a collision.

reddit is leaking and it is your job to be undercover, Agent MRA!

Code Red!

Girlfriend: "I'm sick of you pretending you're a detective. I think we should split up."
Me: "Good idea. We can cover more ground that way."

I've got good manners but the only place where they aren't used is on the tube. There it is everyone for themselves and jungle manners apply. So just stay out of my way or else. :p

Agree.

Wasn't there that thread the other day which was pretty much the opposite of this thread, with people saying that being polite when there is no gain makes you look weak.

Actually no only someone who didn't read the thread properly would think that. I was talking specifically about exaggerated over politeness, not normal everyday politeness.

London is full of (insert bad words) been polite costs nothing
I have seen I'll elderly people who have been trying to find a spot to sit and people don't move I have gone out of my way to get up and let then sit that's my biggest pet peave

It's a dying concept especially on London public transport, everyone is fixed in their own little world with barely any consideration of what's around them. My new bugbear are numpties with rucksacks! What on earth do they cram in there that requires such a large bag and why can't you use just one ounce of common sense and realise you're jabbing everyone behind you!? Morons.

How about, loads of tools, a butt phone, cables, laptop, power leads etc etc so that I can do the job I am using the tube/bus/train to get to. Being based in Waterloo with loads of Central London based customers means it is necessary for me to take a rucksack on London transport often even when it is busy. 99% of the time though I will remove it from my back and force it down between my feet even on a busy tube.

My personal gripe is when you hold a door open for somebody & they say nothing as they continue (not even a nod/smile).

I have an inner desire to smash the door into their face as they go on past. :D

It's not just London.Hold a door open for an old person in a shop in Stratford on Avon and you'll have ten people walk through with not a hint of thanks usually. They must think I'm a doorman or something.

People on the tube and in public places certainly in London are full of ignorant people.

I'm usually smiley and friendly as life is too short to be aggressive all the time, however I do get annoyed if people don't move out of the way or are so engrossed on candy crush that they don't offer their seats to those that need it, or move out of the way for people trying to get on and off of the train or the lift or whatever.

Generally I make it clear that I want to get off or on, sometimes with a sarky comment like "fine, I'll just barge past then..." If people don't make an effort.

However I find people generally are okay, but I do find it irritating that people don't pay attention to others. That is just rude to me. Worse are people walking engrossed in their phones, who walk into you and then blame you! that said 0 cares given. :p

That said I don't really care that much if people don't say thanks for letting them in or holding door open, I have more important things to worry about. It doesn't inconvenience me so I care little. It is only when I have been slighted that I get a little vexed.

I'm never vexed when beautiful people walk into me. Alas, they're few and far between on the commute route.
