Mantis Shrimps!

From what ive read, certain (larger) species (the black and white ones IIRC) can break thin/cheap tanks but from what I can tell its a bit of an urban legend.

It's no urban legend. There is a reason why fish stockists generally keep them in plastic tubs inside a glass aquarium. There are two types, smashers and slashers. It's the smashers who are capable of breaking glass.

They don't all look as pretty as that one, that's a Peacock Mantis and they are not that easy to come by. Most of the Mantis Shrimps I have seen have been a dull brown/grey colour.

Man that shrimp has a freaking bad attitude, if he keeps that up he'll definitely be forever calzone on Valentines day

A friend of mine had a marine tank once. He noticed one by one that his fish went missing and they were nowhere to be seen. None of the other fish could eat them and he was stumped. He was also hearing clicking noises from the tank.

One night when all was dark he sat up and watched the tank to see if anything untowards was going on. After a while, he got the shock of his life. This shrimp (which he never knew was there) burst out from the rock and obliterated one of his clownfish in seconds.

Turns out a few weeks before he had added some new liverock in his tank and there was a stowaway mantis shrimp in there. He had a nightmare getting it out. He was careless and it ended up getting him with it's spearer. It hurt (A LOT).

Finally got it out and took it to the local shop. The thing was a monster. It scared the hell out of me just looking at it. I pray they never evolve bigger

This is pretty much what was happening every night
