Mantle: Teething Problems (Anandtech R9 285 review showing the downsides of low level APIs)

And conveniently Nvidia paid Crytek $2 million for Crysis2:

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/faith/nvidias-2-million-crysis/

IIRC,it was not even given away with Nvidia cards either(could be wrong here). Each company has been paying millions each year to devs,so they can stick their shiny logos on games, add their brand specific features, saying "hey! XYZ hardware is best for this game!". Ever seen how much films had Dolby or THX logos on them??

Honestly are you just trying to turn this into some conspiracy thread? I cannot run Mantle either(gone NV this gen),but since you have a Titan yourself and cannot run it you seem very worried/negative about it. If anything this seems like an AMDMatt Mantle thread but in reverse and TBH we could do with sticking the weekly Mantle threads into one giant one anyway, otherwise we will end up with another one if a magical Mantle driver is released which actually works properly, saying its the bestest thing since sliced bread, then another one when invariably it gets broken for another one,say its the worst thing since cold Haggis.

TBH,I also don't see the big deal you are making about it - if Mantle runs crap for someone having an AMD card, they can switch to DX11 and if it dies then it dies. Meh.

It gave MS a kick up the arse so they could push out DX12 quicker which for me is more than good enough, especially when Intel is making demos like this:

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2014/08/14/intel-dx12-demo/1

Invariably you will disagree and say how 200% wrong I am but I will leave you and the others to start going round in circles as with all these threads.

Pointing out a possible flaw in mantle if dx12 is very similar has to be a good thing right? so hopefully both mantle 2/dx12 dont have the same thing?
I suppose you have a source to back up how mantle moved dx12 timeframe up?

I am sure you can use the search function on the bazillion other Mantle threads out there.

I predict what will happen,is that this thread will get more and more circular until people get bored with the same things said as in the 1000 other Mantle threads or the mods have to come in and start deleting posts and closing them.

Have one thread and then people at least can just check the last pages to be kept up to date with the progress of the API and whether it goes to crap or not,and the AMD driver thread is also useful to see realworld performance problems and issues.

Anyway have fun!!

:D

I'll take that as a No i dont have one then i'm just speculating .. and i'll keep posting I'm leaving thread but keep posting back without answering stuff but saying its going in circles:rolleyes:

You don't keep a user base/industry in the dark for 4 years, you drive your product forward in a positive direction-especially as there is next to no competition, you shout from the rooftops that it's in development.

There isn't any concrete evidence, when one of your main partners publicly states there won't be a DX12 and you don't publicly state otherwise is some kind of indication, there were pointers of what was happening at the time imo.

Regardless, hopefully as AMD handed Mantle accessedit to MS/OGL, a solution can be found in regards to newer gpu support(if this is the case), we will all benefit at the end of the day.

These threads are always circular triss.:)

They said they have gave accessedit, it's in AMD's/Nvidia's best interest that DX12 is the best it can be and push their products, performance is paramount in the gpu space-regardless api used.

no, they haven't said they are handing it over to anyone, they are still trying to plough ahead with developing and supporting mantle themselves... they are trying to claim credit for both DX12 and OGL Next

Richard Huddy is quoted as saying that AMD has given complete access to mantle to Khronos so that they can integrate what they want of it in to the next version of OGL, however the same quote also says

"He also discussed the advantages of Mantle over DirectX, citing AMD's ability to update it much more frequently than Intel has done with DX."

would be interesting to know if the typo is TechReport's or Huddy's, would be hilarious if Huddy doesn't even know who develops DX.
