Pele,
Best,
Maradona,
Cruyff,
Eusebio,
...none of which played real football?

Get a grip! that is exactly the type of comment that makes real football fans hate the glory hunting - travel to the local pub to watch their team play on sky sports - dad used to have a friend whos uncles workmate walked his dog past old trafford once so I'm born and bred manyoo - were picked on at school so their insecurities prevent them from having the nerve to support their local team .
And yes I support Scarborough F.C. I go to all their games, home and away. We were relegated last season and also had a 10 point deduction to start this season.
Ok Rant over.....
LET THE FLAMING BEGIN :D

Haha. :D Every decade there has been a team that dominates a league more than other teams, I appreciate the achievements of Liverpool in the 80s, and Man Utd in the 90s. It's quite scary that this decade is already in it's seventh year  . At the minute, it's a draw between Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd with 2 Premiership titles each. What is going to be remembered so far of this decade?

Glad to get a conversation going, but am too wrecked to get into aynthing right noe, so will see you guy s inthe morning.

nite, nite.

Dear god thats where i was at 2:30am

Well last night was my new year as am spending this one in with my son, its his 1st.

For a team with a London fanbase we do well to fill our Stadium in Manchester up every single week, irregardless of opposition. Something that can't be said of any team within an hour of me bar Newcastle.

I'm sure there was a survey a couple of years back and United had one of the highest percentage of local fans at their games, much higher than liverpool if I recall. Though I don't why I care anyway...nearest big team to me is Cardiff and I can't stand them. I've been a United fan since the age of 4 and that's the way it's staying!

I've never had a major issue with MU fans as a whole, although I think due to their success and subequent large fanbase they do have quite a high number of ignorant, arrogant fans.

I don't have a problem with people being ignorant about football, as long as they know they are.
I don't even have a major beef with arrogant fans, if they can actually hold a decent conversation and back up their arguments with fact.

But what I can't stand is a combination of the two. The ones who **** off opposition players, think their own team is the best thing since sliced bread despite not knowing what club players were bought from and only loses because of their name or biased referees. The ones who just know that they have X titles, but ask them to say which years, or name some players from 1990 will shrug off the question. Meanwhile they are screaming at the telly for a penalty as their star winger launches himself into a pirouette 20 yards from goal.

Of course, these type of fans can be present at almost any moderately successful club. When I was in Mallorca in the summer there was this Arsenal fan and some of the things he came out with were almost embarrassing.

One thing I've noticed and indeed commented on in the past is that there seems to be a growing number of ABCs. Chelsea won the league for the last two seasons because they had the best team, squad and manager - just as it should be. The day they start awarding points for how your squad was assembled, how much money you did or didn't spend will be a sad day indeed. Whether or not MU or Chelsea win the league really makes little difference to me, so i'm not cheering for either side.

Lets face it, your playing for your home country and you get the chance, are you really saying you wouldn't do the very same thing?

Ronney's accepted it, why shouldn't I.

Haha, spot on. 2 of my closest friends at university are ManUre fans, one is from Leicester and the other Cornwall. Says it all really.

London Euston to Piccadilly is only just over 2 hours on the train. ;)

Yeah....because all Liverpool fans are from Liverpool, all Arsenal and Chelsea fans from London, etc, etc. You get the point.

I'm not so sure.

For a start both sets of fans are Londoners so there's no difference there
My team has hated both sets of fans since before I was born
They both now have glory hunters supporting them

Chelsea can remember what it was to not be in with a shout of winning the league. manyoo fans don't acknowledge existence of football before the 90's :p

lols. Good points well made. I must have been in a diplomatic mood. Off to watch fat Sam's team get a smackdown now hopefully. And a happy new year to you sir!

(/ Off topic- Was in guiseley last night for NYE at a friends house. Quite a nice neck of the woods.)

Not entirly sure of your quote of the percentage but I too have been a Man U fan since I was young. IIRC I was about 6 when I started to support them. After my parents died I went to live with my Gran and Grandad, they were originaly from Stockport and both supported Man U. We all lived in Derby even when I was with my mum and dad.

All this talk of Man U fans coming from London, Eygpt:confused: etc etc is probably true. They are the biggest team in the world and have a massive fan base. Not sure on the figure but once I read the official supporters club was going into the 250,000`s, then you have the fans from around the world etc. That could lead into the Millions. Theres only so much room in Manchester, probably around 1 million locals?! Some would support the blue side where as some would the red side.

So why is it such a big deal when you hear of Man U fans coming from all corners of the world? Derby County have a big fan base in Scandinavia, no one takes the rip out of them..

It has been said already in this thread about not all of Man U fans glory hunters etc. You might find that the majority of "hunters" are young lad/girls that have been brought up on supporting Man U by thier parents. You could say 25 years ago if Man U was winning everything I would be a glory hunter due to the fact I was oly 6 and very young and bought up by my grandparents to support them. I am not. The same could apply to the "hunter" generation now. They have been told/bought up to support them.

Hope this makes sence to all of you in this thread. Its not meant ot be a did or a start of an argument in any way, just my thoughts on it all.

The figures mentioned in this post are only estimates and educated guesses. please correct me if you find them to be wrong.

Utd for the Title:D

Go Manchester Buccaneers Go.

All this talk of the wide receiver Roonaldo makes me laugh because he's the bestest and he didn't get his brother Wayne Roonaldo sent off - the umpire did that.

And yes its true. Its a total myth that Buccaneer fans who fill the Old Trafford ballpark come from outside the area. Local soccer fans account for about 95% of the season tickets.

I can't wait for their game against the Newcastle Barcode Stripers later on.

You got the link to that site mate? I remember that from a few years back..:D

Just type Manchester Buccaneers into Google.

I won a t-shirt two years ago for doing a Manchester Buccaneers song with the lyrics wrote by the '12 year old fan'.
Don't know if its still on the site.

I think the majority of long term Utd fans will savour the Premiership IF we win it. There is still a hell of a lot of football to be played between now and May. If we win it I think I would savour this one more than some of the others. Purely to RAM it right down the throats of all the wags who written UTD & Ferguson off. Not to mention the the fans who latched onto Utd in the 90's who think Ferguson is well pas it. A real thumb in the eye for them. However we have all seen bigger leads thrown away over the past 20 years so it's far from over in my book.

As for the arrogance bit well im sure there will be quite a few Utd fans who will ove to rub it in. It's the same as any club though. A lot of you guys must never have come across a Scouse fan in the 80's. Beleive me they had the copyright sewn up on how to be an arrogant, sanctamonious so and so back then.

Chelsea I'm not overly concerned by them and their fans. There does seem to be a growing tide of resentment towards the club though with all the money they seem to throw about in the game, it was always going to breed contempt from some quaters. My only issue with is that at the moment a lot of what they do is very short term and they are trying to buy short term success which imho is not good for the game. Time will tell if they do change that policy if Roman Abrahmovic is to be believed.

Yeah. I heard some shocking stat the other week on MOTD or whatever, apparrently MU have failed to win the league 7 out of the last 9 times they have been top at Christmas (might have been at New Year)
