Many benchmarks of 180 drivers - Performance increases

I've seen graphs like that somewhere else...

AH YES!

The slides ATi and nVidia do with their product launches to show it off to the press.

Catch my drift?

Yeah looks like L4D is the only one that isn't, so that looks good as its still 11fps faster, but the rest of them don't look good, as id always expect them to be faster being their own games.

if my maths is correct that's a range of 15 - 45 fps.

It could be almost anything.... it could be a range of 0-32fps, it could be 30-200fps. As a rule of thumb though I find that minimum framerates are typically around 50% of what you see in average benchmark scores, although obviously it varies depending on how the benchmark was setup. Or in other words, if you want to see a fairly steady framerate of 50+, then you need to be getting 100+fps in average benchmarks.

We've always known the 4870 is about equivalent to a standard GTX260 so it's no surprise really, it's only in rare circumstances such as 8x AA (which is retarded without dual-GPU's anyway) that it performs any better.

Their own games? lol

Most games are TWIMTBP, especially the big titles, so what your saying is you expect them to faster in most games. :D

Yeah you'd have to say that if NV have been able to get to a position where they are faster in TWIMTBP titles, that's certainly a big step forward for them due to the wide support for the program. Personally I've never paid much attention to that really since I always had it down as a marketing gimmick, but if it really is the case that they have the edge in those titles then that's a pretty good guide, thanks for the tip-off LoadsaMoney.

^^as for the 4870 vs GTX260 thing, at launch time the 4870 was definitely faster in most cases, even without going to 8xAA. The real problem with the GTX260 of course was the price, £260 at launch compared to the 4870 at £180. Now that the price has been slashed, a 216 core variant released, and the drivers beefed up, things are a lot more interesting.

I was hoping all the immature ATI fankids wouldn't start. Always the same people too.
It's funny how it happens a lot more with NV stuff, if this was a ATI thread Tute and all the rest would be getting hard ons.

Just posted this thread to help new buyers mostly.

Awesome. I want to see a comparison of that 260 216 next to a 280

That's a trouncing that is..

A 260-216 at around 650-680 on the core will match a stock 280GTX (its running ~600MHz) both will overclock to around 700-730 on average on the core so the 280 is still going to be a bit faster when both are overclocked to the max - but its probably inside 10%.

Tempted to get a 260 216 myself. The GX2 is struggling a tad at 1920x1200 memory wise and I'm a tad fed up of SLI

I was pretty happy with my 8800GT SLI which is similiar to the GX2 - but the 260GTX with its extra VRAM handled farcry2 at ultra settings at 1920x res with lots of FSAA much better.

TBH tho that aside performance on the 8800GT SLI is often better - but the GTX does feel smoother and somehow more solid - maybe less fps dips dunno. As I use a KVM to switch between machines on the same display its quite noticeable how much better the 260 IQ is :D

yup me too, do i get a gtx260 216 now or wait for the 55nm ones in december

Thinking I'm going to order one, I need more memory for my resolution.

Rroff is that with an overclock on the 216? I'd love to know how close it is to the GT SLI setup.

Examples of the games I've had to lower detail recently:

Far Cry 2 - Very high and 2xAA only playable

Fallout - Only runs @ High with 2xAA

I want max out :D
