Map a Network Drive

I have another computer on oput small home network here and wish to map it as a drive on my local pc. How do I do this as everytime I ahve tried in the past it has asked me for a username and apassword but the computer which has the drive I wish to map doesn't have a username or password? and also what do I enter into the box to choose that drive?
 
Just enter the username like this "PCNAME\USERNAME" and press enter.

If not, right click on the drive in My Computer > Properties > Sharing and share the drive.

I prefer to put entire drives under "secret" shares putting a $ sign at the end of the share name. I also use bespoke names - usually characters!

No, it still won't work:

I have put :

jackson-spare\Jackson\stuff

which is:

pcname\username\sharename

I also right clicked the drive i wanted to map on that machine and set it to be shared and gave it a share name of stuff
 
Allow the sharing on "jackson-spare" for the drive.

Then go to Map Network Drive on the other PC, and type "\\jackson-spare\sharename".

If it asks for a user/password type "jackson-spare\USERNAME" and then any password you have set for the machine.
 
Don't put \sharename in for the username that won't work.

Best bet is to actually create usernames and passwords on the PCs.
 
So, you want to use a feature linked to windows security, but don't want to use windows security...

Thought about using pen and paper? Typing a password isn't exactly a hardship now is it.
