mapping software

Slightly random question, my company wants to plot the distance between London and Bejing and then mark off bits of the route as people cover it (kind of a charity thing).

I'd like some mapping software that can mark bits off a route as I get the data and preferably output it or be accessible on the web. Have had a play with google earth but all I can do is a straight line ruler between 2 points.

Does anyone have any ideas - I also thought of a fitness site where you can log your training route online..

I use the above for jogging routes, but that's around a block, not across countries.

Thanks, I saw that one and I think its the easiest solution. If I can get one long route and then just create another one by it to represent the distance travelled.
