Considering the discussion thread lies dead this is my last ditch attempt. I'm not going to take any responsibility but this is my suggestion to get the ball rolling for those interested:
This is a very limited competition with serious shortcomings but since no one seems to want to organize anything or more likely have the time I think it is a start. In April someone can think of doing something differently.
This approach should have minimal effort to sort out.
- From now until Feb28th people vote for one of these 3 topics : 1) Sunrise/Sunset, 2) water, 3)Black & White
These are 3 topics (decided by me, i'm sorry but the last attempt failed) that I think are completely generic, you can photograph portraits, abstracts, nature whatever under all 3 topics. - March 1st votes are totaled and the highest voted is selected.
- People post their own entries in a thread created March 1st. People can post whenever they want until the deadline March 31s and are free to update as and when they want. Yes, we will know who took which photograph but when it comes to voting we must trust honest voting. Doing anything with blind submission takes too much organization it seems.
- In April for 1 week everyone will be able to cast a vote for their favourite photo. There is no scoring for March because that discussion led no where. You are free to come up with your own metrics, just apply them fairly across all images. Whomever gets the most votes wins absolutely nothing. Thhis is just to get people taking part!
