Just been out for dinner at Marcus Wareing and I've got to say it was excellent; the food is good (as you'd expect) but the service was fantastic (attentive and friendly without being intrusive). My first time there and certainly won't be my last.

In similar places I've found it's all about the food,'but this was more about the experiance as a whole.

Champagne cocktails in the lounge
Sesame croutons with roast aubergine dip
Langustines on black pudding
Honey and potato bread
Tomato soup with basil foam
Roast suckling pig with pork scratchings and chorizo purée
Selection of cheeses
Hand made chocolates
Chocolate moelleaux
Port
Jasmine tea
Nice light Bordeaux

You really got the experience of the meal accross there :p

Was it a smaller place?

Went to Bernares and was really disappointed. To big, far to many staff and just not a nice atmosphere. Although the food was nice, far to price for what it was and the price of the wine taster was even worse.

That menu sounds amazing though. Did the Langustines come with a sauce?

How much did it cost?

For the two of us it was a shade under £450, including tip.

It was much smaller than I expected it to be and we were in a smaller side room containing only 5 tables for two. We arrived at 6.30 so it was nicer to be in a more intimate area rather than marooned in the main dining room. The main dining room probably contained about 25 larger tables, but I must admit that I wasn't counting.

The langoustines were on a black pudding and orange puree.

Edit: Just noticed the 'What Restaurant did you eat in last night thread'; probably should have posted in there.

I'm surprised at that. I went a couple of years ago and was incredibly impressed with it. I agree if you went with the wine tasting on the menu it was hellish expensive, but we went as a foursome and just had a couple of bottles of a reasonably priced shiraz. We felt the staff were excellent and looked after us impeccably and were treated just as well as the table next to us who went through easily a couple of k of wine. I'm a stickler for service at top restaurants too, as it really is part of what you are paying for. I have had otherwise very good meals spoilt by annoying or poor service

See I don't think it is good service when you have 8 staff crowding you and staff standing everywhere. Much prefer one waiter keeping an eye on you from a distance and knowing when you might need something, not random service by a massive bunch of waitress that outnumber the guests. Even then they either crowded you,or missed subtle looks, which indicate you want service.
Could well Of been bad day,but the general feel isn't what I like. Even if the service was better, there would still off been To many staff.

The food was very nice but I felt it was overpriced and the wine tasting was rediculuseuse. Few mistakes on the food as well, seniuw left on the pidgin breast for example, on everyone dish which was odd.
But then I have a very good Baseline restraint to compare others to. Which is la-trompette in chiswick. Which is like £40 for a 3 course meal and is still the best food I've eaten. On top of that I think they are. A great size, small. With only a couple of attentive staff from the distance.

Oh I agree being crowded by over attentive waiters I find annoying. Maybe we were lucky or you were unlucky as we just had someone there when we needed it, but never in your face. I definitely agree with small generally being better for an overall experience though.
