Mare of Easttown

Thing is, we'd had Zabel's "confession" so his character had largely run its course? Having him as another suitor for Mare made Guy Pearce character a bit pointless so Zabel needed to be out the way in order to bring Pearce character further along.

Agreed, and it then allows Mare to be brought back onto the Erin case.

I have high hopes for the finale and if it pulls it off I would say this has been one of my favourite crime show in a couple of years (Queen's Gambit excluded). It feels like the depth or writing we had in season 1 of True Detective.

Excellent finale. It’s rare that a show like that plays out nothing like I expected. Very clever writing.

Surely an Emmy nomination or two coming next year.

Wow, what a masterpiece, just fantastic. New found respect for Kate Winslet, such a deep and convincing character portrayal. I could see myself watching this again at some point as once you know the solutions I think it would be interesting to go back. The landscape was so deep in the first few episodes I think you would appreciate it even more knowing where each strand goes.

Did everyone watch the little making of at the end of the last episode? You really appreciated the incredible depth of effort that went into this.

I was intrigued by your comment on “the little making of” at the end of the last episode, I assumed that it was some behind the scenes bits and pieces.
As is my wont, as soon as the titles appeared at the end of episode 7, I deleted it, then reading your post I thought, ‘what have I missed?’
So I restored it, and watched it again from the fight scene between the two brothers at the fishing hole.
The episode concluded with Mare making it up with Lori, the mother of the young boy who had shot the girl, culminating in Mare climbing the pull down ladder to the loft.
So I still don’t know what it was that I may have missed.

There was no mystery at the end from what I watched, everything wrapped very well and all was explained?
Mare climbed the loft ladder at the end to show that she had made peace with the death of her son.

I will give this series a firm 9/10 very well made overall, and the acting from all was outstanding.

He was talking about an interesting sounding "Making Of" section after the final episode that was mentioned by @MookJong.

Probably this? (Potato quality Youtube)

Well that must have been it, I’m glad that I’ve seen it now, but when I read @mookjong’s post, I thought that it had been shown at the end of episode 7, and I couldn’t understand how I missed it.

The making of video just posted is exactly what I was talking about, it aired after the end credits of the final episode.

While I don’t doubt that you saw it somewhere, it didn’t air on my TV, and I played the episode again, virtually from the struggle in the river between brothers Billy and John Ross for the gun, right up until Mare climbed the ladder to the loft, and then the credits rolled.
