Mario Galaxy - Official Thread

In my opinion there's one thing that stops this being the perfect game... why does it have to shout "Super Mario GALAXY!" in that annoying Mario voice when you start the game? Drives me nuts.

Same way that when you start Resident Evil 4 it shouts "Resident Evil... FOUR!". I can see what game i'm playing thanks :P

The controls on the floating platforms suck imo too. If you try walk to the underside of a floating platform the controls don't seem to work properly. I'm also not a fan of the forced camera view in a lot of areas.

Resi 4 and paper mario too.

Smash bros and mario kart will be great online, can't wait to hear all the whingebags on here moan again about snaking and blue shell dodging in mario kart and wavedashing and L-Cancelling in smash bros online :D

You boost and jump just as the shell swoops down to hit you. I can do it 4/5 time on 100cc and pretty much all the time on 150cc.

People on this forum kicked up a stink about snaking because they fancied themselves a god at mario kart, because they could beat their friends, only to be thrashed my techniques that have been in every mario kart bar SMK on the SNES! Unsurprisingly these are the same folk that are deluded about how good the original MK is compared to its sequels.

I can't wait for it to happen all over again with smash bros (hint, beating 3 level 9's is not an achievement ;) ).

Think I need some practice before I think about challenging you then :D

I loved the SNES one, but I had so many great times on the N64 and I'm loving the DS version so far. Smash Bros is something I have never really played but so many people swear by it so I'll be getting it for the Wii.

Ontopic: Do you get a star for collecting 100 coins or anything like Mario 64?
 
Yeah I thought that as well. Coins don't seem as important in this one so far.

I'm guessing there are 6 stars per main galaxy as well? I have 5 on the first few observatories so far.

There is a purple comet that enables a 100 purple coin mode on the level but they're so easy to find.

some of the timed ones are tricky, and a couple of the non timed ones can get quite tense, especially the snow peak one. You have to long jump off the summit.
