Have to write an essay due in a week on market orientation of businesses. Need help in selecting an industry and a specific company which would be good to compare its orientation with other key players in that industry. Was maybe thinking the gaming industry using Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony and then focus on whichever one I can get the most info on. Good idea? Any other suggestions very welcome!

do a bit of research, make sure there is the RIGHT info out there, and see you requirements and then decide.

edit: i did see on 'working lunch' nintendo's head of marketing saying that they had shifted focus and started targeting women (pink DS's nintendogs etc), the others are going for the geeky gamers.

In for friday and I have to look at and compare the company's marketing approach in comparison to its rivals and within itself in relation to sales and production orientations. Will have to look at their marketing activities and the reasoning behind those activities. Info I will be looking to get include keynotes, internal and external magazines/newspapers and other sorts of more academic literature. I was thinking the gaming industry would be good for this as this time round each company has taken a different approach and there should be lots of info available on the reasonings behind these approaches.

from an existing knowledge point of view i guess it will be reasonably simple to set out the standpoints of nintendo/microsoft/sony but finding the supporting evidence might be a bit difficult? i'd probably look at the car manufacturers as my choice, loads of info plus highly visible campaigns and approaches and lots of academic material.
