Marussia car crashed during testing

More on crash involving Marussia test driver Maria de Villota at Duxford in Cambridgeshire.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman says: "We were notified by the ambulance service of a slow-speed crash involving a racing car and a lorry.

"It looks like the driver has suffered a serious injury and we will be notifying the Health and Safety Executive as it happened on private land."

If the HSE get involved Marussia will be under full investigation. From my experience the HSE take ages too!

In a slow speed crash in an F1 car the only part of the body able to receive a 'serious injury' is the head...

The statement reads: "At approximately 0915 BST this morning, the Marussia F1 Team's Test Driver Maria De Villota had an accident in the team's MR-01 race car at Duxford Airfield where she was testing the car for the first time. The accident happened at the end of her first installation run and involved an impact with the team's support truck.

"Maria has been transferred to hospital. Once her medical condition has been assessed a further statement will be issued."

BBC Cambridgeshire presenter Chris Mann, who witnessed the crash, said the car had completed a circuit when it "suddenly accelerated" into the back of the lorry.

"From where I was standing it looked like the helmet took the brunt of the impact," he said.

Oh dear, not good.

Yeah, I was going to post that as well, impact mostly on the helmet sounds incredibly bad.

Hope she's okay but that sounds unbelievably not good, can only hope it was a very slow crash and that she managed to duck and most of the impact was top of the helmet then into the car behind.

Trouble is with the belts done up so tight and the HANS device it's almost impossible to duck.

Im confused how this even happened. How narrow was the track :s

I'm assuming she was coming off the track to pull back into the pits when suddenly the throttle jammed open and launched the car forward.

Only speculating here.
