Turning of ray tracing settings?

Really.......

@TNA grab the popcorn :D
Ultra preset does not enable RT by default, which means everyone can post a benchmark score with a graphics card rather than requiring a graphics card that supports it in hardware to be even able to participate.

However, if there is enough contributions from both sides I will add RT enabled as custom option since I reserved three posts for that specifically to cover the main resolutions.

Please don't come here with the aim to derail and troll the thread before it has even begun. Contribute by all means, otherwise you don't have to post in here if you have no intention of participating.

Since when has that changed other benchmark threads were settings are amped up outside of "ultra" preset?
Simple, enabling RT means only users with dedicated hardware can participate. Hence the decision to use the standard Ultra Preset and see if it gains much traction.

I followed Kaaps advice since he is an expert at these type of threads.

Ummm...

Is there a far cry 6 bench thread? My search isn't picking one up (though I'm rushing on the way home, may have missed it) , so nothing to compare this thread to go on.

Don't see what the issue is, especially if the RT benches can be added due to popular demand as well.

Let's to the pros and cons of Ray tracing and vram elsewhere. If there's anything not already covered...

Looking forward to seeing how these benches go!
Appreciate the support Bill.

Truth be told I was going to do a Far Cry 6 bench thread, but given the furore the requirements to run the HD Texture pack caused in the other thread i thought it was a bad idea.

I was going to go with F1 2021 built in benchmark, but the effort required to validate results in that one is difficult because users have to upload the benchmark results (saved in a CSV file) and then post it to the thread. I then have to analyse the csv file to validate the settings used and results. It's too much effort.

So I went with this game since it has a built in benchmark and lists the settings used on the results screen so it is low hanging fruit with validating results.

No FC 6 thread, surprised one hasn't been created though. But know for a fact that the HD texture pack wouldn't be disabled for the same logic/reason as used here :p And funny thing is if so, there are less gpus (or rather owners of said capable gpus) capable of running the game with the HD texture pack (if we keep to the "cards must have support for said settings to be used") than there are gpus out there with ray tracing support (or again, better to say owners of ray tracing capable gpus)

But I digress.....

And exactly, no issue if it is added as an "extra" to no RT benches but to not add it at all is just stupid, basically hamstringing results for reasons....

As for the "because not enough people have ray tracing capable cards" etc. then what's the point of these ray tracing benchmark threads?

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...eature-test-port-royal-bench-thread.18838895/

Also, looking at the results, looks like a good amount have ray tracing capable cards there (not a surprise though given we are on an "enthusiast" forum where majority of people have new cards from the last 2 years).....
There's a difference there though, GPUs like the 3080 can run the HD Texture pack even though they don't meet the requirements, they just suffer from texture issues, FPS drops and stuttering so that is not comparable. There is no hardware required that prevents the option from being enabled and used.

GPUs without RT cores cannot run RT in games. The option to enable RT is greyed out. I've tested this game (and others like SOTTR, Far Cry 6, Resident Evil, Cyberpunk 2077, The Medium, Control) and it is not possible to enable RT effects in graphics cards that lack dedicated RT cores.

Neon Noir does not require dedicated RT cores so it is not comparable to games. I hope this makes it easier for you to understand.

This is fair. And also what he said he'd do...
If there is enough activity I will add extra sections, that's why there are reserved posts. But if there's not much activity over time I probably won't bother.

However, Nexus is welcome to create and maintain his own thread, I have no objections if he wants to manage a RT only thread for this or other games which I will contribute too if I have the game installed.

Oh and if I decide to do a Far Cry 6 and/or F1 2021 thread, Ray Tracing will be disabled there also. :)

LMAO... seriously it's 2021 even the consoles have ray tracing now... Or is this another AMD Fanboy thread ? Should be two benchmarks then RT OFF and ON.

Either do it right or don't bother really. Getting tired of such stupid threads to push a certain point of view. It's nothing but spam now, fanboy rubbish or never ending mining chat on the gpu section.

Maybe we should also set it to 320 x 240 resolution too ?

Add Yawn and bored of fanboys Gif here.
I think your post is spam since you have no interest in contributing any results just come here to derail and insult.

Feel free to contribute some benches though If I am mistaken. :)

We might as well all just sell on our cards from the last 2-3 years and go back to non-rt gpus + reduce/turn off graphical settings or tell nvidia/amd, developers not to bother with ray tracing... :o

But you do you :)

Either way looking forward to seeing the results as the game is visually stunning and performs very well on all setups.
No one is forced to contribute, its entirely optional and a bit of fun. I think sometimes people forget that when you read the tone of some posts that obviously feel the need to defend their graphics card purchase/and or insult others. No need for it really.

Please just stick to the topic and post benchmark scores if you want to. Otherwise, don’t post anything it’s just unnecessary and completely off topic. There is really no need to make personal attacks on me as it’s unrelated to the thread topic.

@LtMatt

Please just run the benchmarks again with RT enabled , it would at least give a good overall `picture` of the performance. Yes i know you want to showcase the RX6900XTX, but it would give a balanced view ,now the flashing texture thing is fixed

He’s right about RT though Matt. It should be included in game benches where it’s available.
I’ve explained in the thread why it’s not enabled by default however I will enable it if there’s enough interest and contributions to warrant the extra work.

I’m hoping the dons will clear up the off topic posts so the thread can get back on track.
