Mass Effect 1,2 & 3...

Very minimal reading in ME, all NPC's are voiced, it's only things like datalogs and emails and stuff you have to read.

Must admit having fun going through ME1 again, being a complete ass so maxed out Renegade :D. From what i been reading in the ME3 thread doesnt make a difference in the end :p

You can do them faster yes, but you won't have done half the sidequests and whatnot.

My ME1 save is about 50hrs, ME2 around 40hrs, and i'm about 25hrs into ME3 atm.

Not all but 90 % of them , it didn't take long to plough through the game if your a quick reader and good at combat/right upgrades. The me games simply aren't as big in content as say skyrim.

The start of the first one can be confusing. It is also very slow to start. Once you are out of the station, it will speed up. Just get into the story though and it will be fine :-) There are boring aspects like searching planets, but they can be fun as well :-) ME1 is excellent... left me clamouring for the 2nd game. ME2, combat was not as good, but still a good story :-) The third.. I'm holding off for now lol. (I really want it).

You have made a good choice.

They have some of the best music I've ever listened to in a game, some really beautiful songs in all three. Also, probably Bioware's best written characters since Baldurs Gate 2 imo.

For anyone staying away from ME3 because of the talk about the ending, you're really missing out. Yes I would play through 1 and 2 first but ME3 is one of my games of the year so far. Well worth it and I'll probably play through it again in a few weeks. You should buy it. It really is excellent and i don't get the moaning about the GFX, they look fine to me.

Personally I couldn't get into ME until ME2 came out. I felt the character writing of the first was a bit stoic and not as in-depth. It made it hard for me to really care for them. Where it did excel over ME2 was the overarching story and world building fiction.

ME2 made it easier for me to care for events because it concentrated on the characters with amazing writing. Suddenly characters from the first game that I didn't care for came alive and felt real.

ME3 used the second games focus on the "human" aspect of events and characters but in a much larger and incredibly darker way. I personally loved 99% of it, I've never been as affected by a video game as I was with ME3. Yeah the ending is literally "WTF" flabbegastingly bad, but the journey getting there was freaking epic.

Overall I like to think of Mass Effect as one game. Each nicely balances the others out in terms of focus and overall plot development. I can quite easily say that this series is the best game within the last decade- possibly two. If they do fix the ending to be what it should be then I'll say it is my favourite gaming franchise of all time, even ahead of games like the 90's Xenogears, FF6, 7, 8 and 9, and other great JRPGs in their prime.

I dusted off my PC version of ME2 a few days ago, and was most pleased to find that I'd kept the the PC Mass Effect 1 completed save I did back in 2010. Getting ME2 to play ball on my PC has been quite tricky, especially getting my old BSN and EA accounts to work properly. :(

Now that it is working (after a fashion), I'm enjoying the early stages a 'hardcore' paragon run through. It's quite tough too. The only drags of the PC version are the hacking and scanning sections. These worked much better on the XBox.

Indeed, it's a shame that I did all my many play-throughs of Mass Effect 1&2 on the 360. I even had most of the DLC on that format too. :(

Found the first one a bit dull to be honest, but really enjoyed the second one! Playing the third one now and it's taking a bit of time to get going.
