Mass effect 3 + Kinect = :(

Thats not the first time someones called me that and probably not the last! :p

In answer to your post I really like kinect I dont however own one simply beacuse the room were I have my 360 setup is far too small.
I just dont want to see in a few years time a complete shift from controller based games and interfaces as 1. it will mean people who have stupidly small rooms (ME!) wont be able to play and 2. I feel really uncomfortable talking to my TV lol!
It just seems with Microsofts E3 press brief there was a big emphasis on kinect and pushing it to center stage - even the dash is being optimized for kinect control and I just get this feeling that MS are going to be doing away with the traditional controller in nearly all of there games in the near future.

*Sigh* I'll just go back to playing with my marbles - I seem to have lost a lot latley though!

I dont think it will fully replace a controller for years to come if at all; and the technology will only imrpove; it could be in 5 years time you put a tiny stud on your hands/feet and it completely tracks the body negating the need for large rooms - or even use a neural interface for an almost "mind control" vibe - i think Microsoft are smart enough to not phase out controller support until this is the new controller type (if that ever happens) - but integrating it for added functionality isnt a bad thing at all, even the Forza stuff is need so you can move your head to look, imagine in an FPS being up against a wall and have the option to peer in real time and peak around the corner rather then a gentle push of the thumbstick - and voice commands are great to...

Just a small step to the real NEW generation...

I can't wait for full VR worlds and pron games! :D

The controller isn't going away anytime soon, but you have to remember that the Kinect is the fast selling electronic device in history... more than something like the iPhone.

That's a huge market and rightly so that you would concentrate on that as your focus.

I don't get all the hate for Kinect tbh. It's new technology, things change, that's how it's always been and that's how it will always be.

The features are completely optional, and what is all of this moaning about Shepard saying something different to what you say. I'm sorry but i'd find it very annoying if it went as follows

Me using Kinect: We need to save the galaxy!
Shepard on screen: We need to save the galaxy!
Random NPC: It's to late for that Sheppard
Me Using Kinect: It's never to late
Shepard on screen: It's never to late

It would be like having a Parrot in your ear. The way they've done it makes the conversations play out much more fluidly.

I think it's the 'In' thing nowadays to hate all of the Kinect and Motion Controller stuff, it's the 'cool' thing to think of them as a gimmick. Hey, it's not like it's the first time something new has came out and people have called it ****, it happens.

Change is slow, and sometimes it takes people a while to get used to that change. I'm sure there are plenty that see it as an affront to their divine position as gamers to have this technology thrust into their faces, get over it.

Personally i've not picked up Kinect yet, Why? Because there were no games out that used it well. However, I'll be picking up a copy of Kinect when stuff like Mass Effect and Ghost Recon hits the stores.

The ability to do stuff hands free is a great technological advancement for games, as is the incorporation of speech recognition.

People moan about Microsoft pushing for it to be put into every other game that's being released now? Why wouldn't they? It's their technology, they need to lead by example. If they don't support it, who will, even a non-gamer can see that. Whether it is implemented correctly, and with serious thought is debatable however. If it's put in late in development. But again, that's the nature of games development, things change at any point.

Sorry guys, but traditional controllers and interfaces are a thing of the past. stuff like Hands free Control, touch screen control, and speech recognition are the way forward.

We've all seen Minority Report with the hands free stuff, or perhaps Sunshine with that vr room where the guy is in a simulation of waves crashing against the seafront. Or of course, the holodecks in Star Trek.

That's the way things are going, and I'm quite looking forward to it :).
