Mass Effect 4 to use Frostbite 2

I picked ME3 up for £7-50 a week ago to tide me over until Ass Creed etc release. I wasn't expecting much..
Gotta say, I'm loving it! Good graphics, great story and some genuinely funny bits.
Frostbite should be even better.

Funny that.... given that EA had the audacity to **** off Steam for cheap game prices  "How dare they have sales".

They never said they were stopping at three, the trilogy was always Shepard's story, they'll start with a new character now. There's a lot they can do with the game world they've created, and there's a lot of games to come out of it yet.

They could take it back or forward a few hundred/thousand years, they've got a fair amount of options.

I'd like a non human main character, a turian would be good.

Indeed, the universe they created was huge, and really very interesting. I reserve judgement on the game because I thought their latest effort was very poor, but the stories that could come from it have the potential to be epic.

I would argue that the characterisation in ME2 is the best of the 3, Mordin and Thane are epic, but ME1 still gave me the best overall experience.

WHY THE **** IS THERE A MASS EFFECT 4?!!?!?
Was my exact reaction. They screwed us over with a pathetic ending and now there's yet another one coming. Just how much crap can THE SHEPARD endure?!

Having said that, I can't see it being based around Shepard this time. I am hoping they just leave him well alone after the way he was treated.

They going to pull Star Wars on this and make a prequel trilogy?

I found Mass Effect 3 just about passable although I did play quite a few months after release with the ending update. Still a shallow experience compared to other games, not sure how much faith I will have with this.

EDIT: Prequel trilogy on the fall of Protheans?

I thought about replying the trilogy again in the next few weeks while I am off work, I might still do it, but I will probably just play the first two.

With regards to ME4, there is very little chance of me buying another Bioware game. I do not think they are capable of making good games anymore

I would be interested in this.

Prequel would be good. However, problem with prequels is that you know you will ultimately fail, and everything you do will not change that outcome.

This is what annoys me. For once it would be nice to have a "what if" prequel that tears up any pre-established events. Like the Force Unleashed extra content, only not arse.

It's one thing I hope for the Clone Wars series, now that it belongs to Disney.

My first question would be.

WHY THE **** IS THERE A MASS EFFECT 4?!!?!?

My first thought upon seeing the thread title also.

The answer is pretty obvious though. They have created an entire universe for the Mass Effect trilogy, even if they did **** up the ending. As if EA would pass up the opportunity to milk that cash cow. As proven by several comments reading through this thread, they thought ME3 sucked but will buy ME4 anyway either out of hope Bioware will make it good or because they like the universe

The gameplay up until the ending was fine, it was the ending that sucked.

lol @ Fenris comment :-D

A prequel perhaps... of the Protheans' fight ?

I actually started playing ME1 again this evening... couldn't help it after listening to the ME2 music at work :-D

PMSL That always happens to me. Just hearing the intro music in my head now after your post makes me want to play it!

Installing now :D

ME1 will always be the best, but I find that with every game STALKER ShoC is the best stalker game. It's that first time feeling you get from a game that you remember the most - obviously you won't get that with sequels. ME1 mind shatteringly amazing; ME2 Bloody amazing; ME3 Amazing up until the uttlerly abysmal ending which I still cry myself to sleep about (ok, that part's not true)

They ****ed mass effect up imo

The first game they teased the player into think there choices would have a huge effect on the game and the out come.

The 2nd game gave you even more choice and teased you even more that your actions in the other 2 games would have a big impact on the game

3rd game the choices you made in the last 2 games amounted up to little expect slight changed dialog.

The jump in combat between 1 and 2 was the right one imo but they should have spent another 6 months or so on the story tying up all the lose ends rather then just chickening out. I played the 3rd game and i really felt the stuff i did in the other 2 games really didn't matter.

The ending sucked, but the story throughout was much less good shall we say, and the gameplay was nothing even close to as good as the first. Armour/weapons upgrades basically didn't matter, the game was very overly easy, the locations weren't epic, Citadel ME1 vs Citadel later is embarrassing.

If ME1 gameplay was a 8/10(few less ammo pick ups, better inventory, less boring planet exploration and it would probably be a 10), then ME2 would be a 6 and ME3 a 5 maybe.

2/3 were too easy, too powerful, fun, but could/should have been better, they lost completely the RPG element of the game which severely diminished the game.

Anyway for me, as others said Protheons prequel wouldn't be great because of the known outcome basically. Realistically the next place to move the story on is maybe a Earth Civil war, break away and try to fight for control of the galaxy type of thing. There are other alien races who could join the fight, IE half of earth joins the council and fights for joined power, other aliens join the other half of earth to take control of the galaxy with the intention of splitting it up between less races and keeping themselves to themselves after, something along those lines is where the story has been heading for a long time.
