Really pumped when I saw this was on sale at a good price in the Steam sale, as seemingly avoids all the baggage running the older editions has (ME1 no 4K, ME2 DVD required in the drive, ME3 multiplayer now removed).
Installed and eagerly launched into ME1, get control on the Normandy deck only to find the camera spinning anticlockwise. No means to stop it. Sundry Google Fu points to conflict with gamepads but there are no options in game to disable gamepads or other controllers and I don't really want to keep yanking my gamepad and flightstick out the back of the PC every time I play ME.

So reluctantly decided to refund. If anyone has another suggestion I'm all ears, maybe pick the game up again at a later date.

cant u disable it through device manager?

or try this what i found on steam forum - disabling the origin or ea app overlay solved the spinning camera for me

or on reddit The best solution I've found is to activate or plug in your controller after you gain control of your character, so maybe touching the controller stick after games loaded when u see ur character.

Quick postscript - am I correct in thinking only ME1 suffers from this gamepad/joystick conflict? If so then I might just rebuy and yank out the two peripherals for the duration of the first game.

In the end I rebought it and have temporarily disconnected the gamepad and flight stick.
Not an ideal solution particularly as the old DVD Bioware version I got up and running without any issues, but I really want to see the improvements to ME1 and enjoy ME3 later on without the multiplayer progress wall.

Oh yes, great games. The only section I don't really like is in ME1 when you have to run various side "fetch" missions on the Citadel when you should be getting out there and dealing with the galactic threat. Well I suppose (like the Minutemen missions in FO4) they generate a bit of XP for levelling up but otherwise just tedious.

I had a similar issue with my joystick causing game menus to scroll on their own. I just bought a cheap USB hub with on/off switches for each input, and keep in within reach on my desk. I just switch the joystick off when needed. Job done.

Sorry to hear that the game was disappointed - if you had bought a hardcopy you could have sent it back via the letter post delivery.
Alright already. A typo in the header which our kind forum software won't allow to be edited.

You know quite nicely that it was (is) virtually impossible to get refunds on games purchased on disc, other than replacement disc(s) if the media was faulty. One advantage of Steam with its two hour refund window, though if you read through the ongoing thread you will note I repurchased the game and it's working fine with the peripherals unhooked.

Mass effect 2 has to be one of the best RPGs ever made. ME3 is quite good also

Not even close. Can you even call it an rpg after they stripped out the few rpg elements Mass Effect had? I remember being very disappointed after buying it day one on release on steam. Story was nowhere near as good as the first game either.

I got this game free from amazon prime sometime ago and will be playing all 3 back to back soon to refresh my memory as I don't even remember anyjng at all about ME3 appart from major disappointment. The first game was awesome for its time, just needed to be less consoley and more rpg and would have been lerfeofor me. Hope we get a remake.

Shame Lair of the Shadow Broker wasn't implemented (and expanded into the whole game) as per the release game - it adds a lot to ME2 beyond the missions the DLC contains - there was obviously a lot more story depth originally which got cut for time or whatever.

It's a funny thing as many people rave about how good ME1 is compared to 2 and 3... I'm a little way into ME1 and TBH finding it a little boring and tedious. Seriously thinking about jumping out and straight into ME2.
Or maybe I just got old!

The combat in ME1 is old and clunky but the story is unmatched, should stick it out imo. I think most (maybe console) players prefer ME2 game but for me it was weaker. The combat was different but it was also janky just a different kind of jank. Felt like a collection of team mates for a long time before the story gets going but it was still a great game and has very varied locales for all the missions unlike the 1st game.

Did you play them on release? I replayed ME1 10 years later and it still felt awesome but never got through the replay of ME2.

I just got the leg edition but feel somit if off in me1 i dunno if fov made me a bit dizzy with him so close in the camera during intro where hes on the ship moving about or if its fps, there high but feel like the games sped up as when moving the cam about it feels too sensitive even tho it isnt kinda thing. I tried altering sensitivity of cam and mouse but doesnt fix it. I really dont want to bother with mods either.
