Hey there

So I might go out and buy Mass Effect today but I have 3 questions:

1. How would it run on my system? Specs in my signature.

2. Would I need a 360 gamepad to play it or is it more suitable for the mouse and keyboard?

3. I've heard that its a game that has enormous replay value and there are loads of different paths and stuff to take in game. Is this true and will it keep me playing for ages?

Thanks for your help and time.

1. I've got a E2140 @ 2.8Ghz, 8800GT 512MB and 2 gig of ram and runs great at full.

2. No game pad needed mate the port has been optimized for the keyboard and mouse.

3. I've heard that is the case but I'm only 30 minutes into the game and really enjoying it so can't really comment on that.

I got the game yesterday and I can say if you liked the KOTOR games you will love this. As for the gamepad, it's definately better suited to the keyboard, one of the 360's criticisms was that you had to pause the game to select different 'powers' in order to use them as was only 1 button for using a power - with the keyboard they are all key bound so no pausing neccesary meaning much more fluent combat.

As I only got game yesterday I can't say for sure on replay value but from my experience so far - yes. I'd say replay value is huge and there is 3 main classes to choose from and 3 subclasses which are a mix of the 3 main classes. Also you choose different backgrounds to your character which changes how people perceive you in the game and of course your choices throughout the game change the outcome.

I can see myself playing through it at least 3 times :) There is also 5 difficulty settings (the last 2 not available till you have completed it).

Also the combat is a lot of fun i'm really really enjoying it, can't recommend the game enough.

As for your computer running it I really don't know, hopefully someone else can answer that for you

It will run fine. My 6 year old plays it on his 3000 amd64,2600xt at 1280x1024 with no problems at all. Alright it doesnt have all the graphic features at full but it still looks and plays good.

6?? That's a bit young for Mass Effect imho.

I'm on my second replay and I've already found some stuff that I managed to miss the first time around :o

Quick question bout playing Mass Effect , without giving too much away I've got to the stage where I'm exploring the universe after getting the Normandy.

On the planets where you explore in the 6 wheeled vehicle, is there anyway of getting out of the vehicles to explore some of the buildings/objects you encounter?

Press Q to exit to Mako. One tip is to get things down to low health using the Makos on board weapons then to get out and finish the job with your team as you get about twice the XP for doing so :)

How about, because it has a BBFC 12 rating, it's illegal for anyone under that age to play it?

It ain't a 12A or a PEGI rating. There's no parental guidance involved.
No it's illegal for anyone under that age to buy it, whether they play it is up to the parents.

Personally I saw more sex and violence on daytime TV when I was six than I have seen in Mass Effect.

Note: I am not saying this game should be available to all six year-olds, I believe it's purely up to the parents. I am just saying I don't see anything in this game that would actually be unsuitable for six year olds.

I was actually thinking more of the sexual situations and violence.
Like I said, I personally saw worse on daytime TV when I was that age.

It's purely up to chris74 if he feels the game is suitable for his six year-old or not, and I think it's a pretty sad state of affairs when we've got to the point where people on an internet forum will criticise your parenting over such a minor thing.

:) so i can install it more than 3 times on my pc ? i take it the copy protection has somthing to do with your ip ?
It's like activating Vista. You can install the game as many times as you like on up to three different hardware configurations (computers) and it will record that configuration when it activates your copy of the game.

As long as you uninstall the game properly you should never "run out" of activations.

On the lastability of the game front. Obviously it's worth playing it through at least twice just to see how each side of the story unfolds (good or evil), i've been playing it pretty solid most of the week and there's still god knows how many more systems for me to explore, the problem is i don't want to get sidetracked from the storyline too much but i can't help myself.

I dont think it actually gives you back the liscense if you uninstall. As far as i know, you can install it on the same PC as many times as you like, and 2 other completely seperate PCs. Its when you change certain hardware on each of the 3 PC's that it will think its on a 4th PC and kick up a fuss.
