Mass Effect Question

I dont think it actually gives you back the liscense if you uninstall. As far as i know, you can install it on the same PC as many times as you like, and 2 other completely seperate PCs. Its when you change certain hardware on each of the 3 PC's that it will think its on a 4th PC and kick up a fuss.
If you uninstall the game before you upgrade your motherboard or whatever you get an install back.

Ok so I went ahead and bought it, it runs pretty smooth on my PC at 1280x1024, with High effects and textures, runs between 20-50FPS, when I am in heavy(ish, so far anyway) combat parts it will go into the 20's depending on whats happening. I am not very far into it yet, only played for about an hour or two and so far so good.

3. Not really. It's a heck of a lot better then almost every other game, but it's still overhyped. You can do missions in different order (with little effect), you can choose the hot chick to bang (even though it's a tad random at times), you can kill major characters and minor characters at frequent intervals just for the hell of it (with actual effects).

Like I said, I personally saw worse on daytime TV when I was that age.

That's just a different flavour of poison though isn't it, some would argue you shouldn't of been watching those day time programmes.

I think it's a pretty sad state of affairs when we've got to the point where people on an internet forum will criticise your parenting over such a minor thing.

To be frank that would mean these forums have been in a sad state for quite some time already :p

I don't see it as minor thing but then I'm not the kids dad so it's not like I could or would do anything about it anyway, I'm just voicing my opinion.

Then I would argue they should be on after the watershed. :)

I don't know, I have never really seen anyone questioning how people treat their children on this forum (with the exception of the McCanns) and most people around here are generally annoyed at the whole nanny state thing so I would assume they feel that way on a more public/personal level too.

What crap, frankly, as in. Every single cartoon, or ok, most show violence and often made a joke out of. Road Runner has someone trying to assinate him in every episode using all kinds of weapons, but thats ok, however a bit of violence in a game is bad because? errm, ,its not a cartoon?

Seeing violence doesn't make people violent, anyone that thinks so is stupid. Seeing sex, might infact lead to a child having sex later in life, unfortunately (almost) all people will end up partaking in this henious act and one day we can all pray to see this wiped from TV so in the future our children will never once be exposed the horrific nature of sex, nor kissing in public, as this leads to sex, or really any affection at all, as that must be bad too.

Or maybe people jump on any subject to "shield" people from certain aspects of life, which leads to lack of communication, hiding what actually happens in life and bad parenting, but well done, he should hide his kid from the violence he will no doubt see everyday anyway, being as how we live in a country whose currently invaded and killing people for money.

Back to Mass Effect, get it, tis brilliant, I played through all, or very close to all the side missions and in truth, they are fairly pointless, but some are fun non the less. THe main story is plenty long and simply fantastic, combat fun, story-- probably the best in any game for the past 5-10 years, not sure but probably better than Kotor, maybe not. Replayability, I dunno, I always remember stuff so well that redoing games too soon is stupidly boring, but will no doubt give it another run through in a year or two.

If you honestly think viewing violence doesn't have an effect on a child, then you sir, are as stupid as they come.

I think your missing my point, or just looking for a chance to sound off a PC argument. Are you sure you're even replying to my post? Also I didn't say playing the game would make a child any more or less violent or any more or less likely to have sex. What I will say is that children are impressionable, even more so the younger they are.

I agree that cartoon violence and the fact that violence can happen isn't something you can or necessarily should shield children from. The point is I'm not talking about protecting them from Sponge Bob or Kim Possible I'm talking about protecting them from a game where, if you want to, you can make the decision to murder characters and generally act like an evil sod. I don't mean your alien blasting bits, I'm talking about the bits in dialogue where you actually decide how you behave. Now tbh I don't think a 6 year old should be left to make those kind of decisions.

As far as sex goes, it may be a small part and I'm not far into the game yet but so far I've seen you can go to a strip / pole dancing club and sit down for a dance as well as book an appointment with a courtesan. Now I know the game portrays this fairly tastefully but I wouldn't call it appropriate content for a 6 year old.

Just our of interest then why is that seeing sex might lead to a child having sex later in life, but seeing violence definitely won't cause them to act violent?

Nah I've definitely seen it before, the whole age vs age rating discussion thing. I just want to clarify though, I'm not saying anyone is crap at parenting at all, I don't know any one well enough here to judge how good a parent they are.

Guys let's not have a big debate on parenting and what state the forums are in, things seem to get sidetracked so easy on these forums. The posters questions were about Mass Effect...
