Mass Effect Requires Online Validation Every Ten Days to Function

If your system doesnt meet the minimum requirements for the game, DONT BUY IT THEN.

Also, I find this post from the following thread:

"Anyone tried AudioSurf? New game on steam . ."

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sh...53&highlight=username_Shamikebab#post11195253

So you run Steam on a none internet connected PC? - Awaits pathetic excuse.

All these people whining about silent background activations that 90% of us will not ever know are taking place are barking mad.

IF ONLINE ACTIVATION WAS SUCH A BAD THING, I'D HAVE THOUGHT STEAM WOULD HAVE FAILED A LONG TIME AGO.

You have a 360 which somehow is ONLINE... play Mass Effect on that.
Is there a reason for such an unnecessarily hostile post? My system will easily meet the necessary requirements for this game. Internet connection should not be necessary for a single player game. The so called 'feeble excuse' for running steam is thats on different machine, the family computer which sits downstairs next to the router, however would not be capable of running mass effect. Again my 360 is downstairs next to the tv and is fairly close to the router. Not that I have to explain myself to you. Unecessary steps like this are alienating loyal customers (I've purchased many Bioware games in the past) and do nothing to stop piracy.

My appologies for the over reactive post.

Online activation is something which is here to stay and will sooner or later be on consoles too if they have not switched to an entirely downloadable delivery system.

Without sounding hostile though, surely it wouldnt be impossible to get your PC online? I dont think it is wrong of the developers/publishers to assume that the majority of PC gamers have their PC connected to an internet connection the majority of the time. Surely those who do not are the minority?

On the same token, why should 360 users who are NOT online not be able to get patches for their games? They are the minority and it just accepted.

As this is relatively new to the PC crowd, I think acceptance will be a long time forthcoming from the majority.

Apology accepted :)

Well my PC is situated a long way from the router unfortunately and my family are unwilling to have cables trailing all over the house, even hidden under carpets and the like. Unfortunately neither my PC or router are wireless enabled. I've never been interested in multiplayer gaming on my PC (and not a great amount on my 360) as SP titles have always been far more interesting to me. I have already completed the game but Id love to get it on pc for the improvements. Perhaps I will buy the game when a crack to disable this checking system is available.

I'm fine with the activation on one condition - there is no process/service started automatically, and nothing is placed in the Startup list. Things like that really annoy me, it should be a button on the game splash screen that contacts the server from the game process.

If they do any of that crap I'll just download it, screw them.

To be honest it looks like I'm gonna end up downloading this game, I was going to buy it because I'd quite like reading through the manual (Well, if it's a thick manual with lots of info like the KOTOR games)

The fact I'm gonna end up installing a crack on a game I've bought just puts me off the buying process completely, it just defeats the point.

This is what would happen if I bought the game.

- Install
- Download no-cd/activation crack
- Game gets put on some shelf for months and months. (unless my Windows installation goes **** up, unlikely though)

Just plain stupid.

Edit: I'm guessing a Steam release is out of the question, maybe it will arrive on EA Link? (Then again, EA Link charged £25 for Battlefield 2142 when it was only £15 on the highstreets, so sod that)

Buy it then crack it if it bothers you that much?

but the dev/pubs etc would have gotten your money

makes no difference once you crack it you are not allowed to play it under the devs rules.

They will have lost a slot of sales from this just like the star force games just because its so much less hassle to pirate it.

I really cannot see a problem if a game connects without you knowing just to verify it. It is not as if it will have any impact on gaming for you.

If anything, it just seems to be giving a large number of people here an excuse not to buy it and for them to pirate it as an alternative.

At the end of the day this will cost them more as shown by Jihad's example, people that would have bought it will now not buy it because of the hassle.

They should do the same as Oblivion, just make a damn good game without the restrictive copy protection and it will sell.

or gta games they have hardly any protection but still sell like hotcakes

Because some of us like to be able to play games on holiday without having to hunt down an internet point every other week.
