I think I preferred the Mako in ME1.
Sure the planets could have done with a lot of work with regards to making them slightly more alive and interesting, and the Mako controls could have been refined, but it was a lot more fun than the scanning which I don't like much at all.
And it was mostly optional too. Now you are kind of forced to scan if you want to upgrade stuff, whereas in ME 1 you would get better hardware all the time.
