Played this on the PC but never really got that into it. Is it worth giving it a shot? I remember getting up to the point after the first mission in the car then doing the mission after in the labs in the snow mountain range sort of thing... thats as far as i got. Was a little bland by then tbh. Does it get better?

It does get better yeah, but tbh you were nearly a third of the way through the game at that point iirc. It was fun while it lasted but the actual storyline missions were too short and too few and the side missions were dull and repetitive.

I say grab it and complete it, skip the side missions just get right into the meat of it. Then, when the sequel comes out, hope that they've made the storyline missions that bit longer and more varied. The game is one of those that fell into the common issue of having fantastic potential but just missing its targets. Hopefully the sequel will be as much as the first game should have been.

You were hardly through the game the first time. The intro mission is the visit to Eden Prime, where you disarm the bombs after riding in the car. Then you visit the Citadel and must prove that Saren is a git - and from that point onwards the game really begins.

It looks like you choose to visit Novaria as your first mission, which is a snowy planet. You should have hung on as the game is simply brilliant and remember, you can never have enough Omni Gel!

I never got past rescuing Liara whatsherface as I thought it got a bit boring. What is the best character to play as? I went for a guy that can do "spells" for want of a better word but I found it all confusing and the interface too unwieldy. Is it better just to go as an ordinary soldier so you can train up in the better weapons?

Thats the problems i had, the 'magic' use was pants, no benefit what so ever. From what i remember anyways, think it was best just to stick to guns.

Im in the same boat as the OP. Have the game, but got to a certain part in the game and just stopped playing. Really should try and get into it, but i can't for some reason :(

I felt as though the game wanted you to play as a certain style, if you didnt it didnt work.

It also fealt detached, as though it wasnt a game... odd i know, thats just how i remember it lol

Biotics come into it more on higher difficulties. I played through it once, And never even used my powers. Now I'm making my way through the game on Insane, And I could not survive without them. To be honest, the game is more enjoyable on higher difficulties

Yep, my lv60 biotic pleb could most likely beat the living hell out of my lv60 soldier. A soldier at lv60 with high end spectre weapons is just like going through the game in godmode tbh.

Great game, thoroughly enjoyed it. As said above, it's far too easy on standard difficulty and the side quests are laughably repatative, however the main storyline is fantastic.

The problem with biotics was that they seemed to be specifically aimed at either disabling enemies, which your crappy AI teammates would fail to kill, or doing heavy damage to a single enemy in one blast with a long recharge.

All of those were very useful skills for your AI to be told to use at the right time, but if you were executing them yourself the AIs aim with rifles was so rubbish it always ended up being a wasted opportunity. The best way to play the game imo was to be an all out gun toting soldier with your AI teammates having biotic powers, you could then command your teammates when to use biotics and therefore the rubbish aim they had wouldn't be a detriment if you see what i mean.

Lift is a Godsend on Insane, And you're right Streeteh, Having Biotics yourself is a waste of time. Much better to have your team mates use them. Another Godsend ability is Adrenaline Burst.

Lift, Unity, Adrenaline Burst and Overkill become necassary on Insane :D The others I didnt need, Tech Abilities I never touched to be honest, Other than hacking and stuff

I'd agree with what you've said, but once you start levelling up your biotic powers you can throw most enemies into walls and kill them. Still, you'd need a balance and would have to include someone with a heaver weapon to mop up after you ran out of powers.

Best bet is to play a class where you can unlock the rifle or the shotgun on the first playthrough and then play a biotic with these skills next time round.

I finally got around to finishing it for the first time in the weekend, going to try an all Renegade run on my second play through! I'd say it's worth it just to hear the awesome credits song :p

On second playthrough i have found the game to be far better than i remembered. The dialogue is among some of the best RPGs ever made and the voice acting is difficult to fault. The graphics are lush (fortunately i'm playing on the PC so the framerate issue isn't a problem) and the worlds are varied visually.

With that said, my complaints still exist, they are just dwarfed more significantly by the finer points of the game. The car sections are repetative, dull and the handling is infuriating, the side quests nearly all use the same template for the 'base', and sometimes dialogue can end up going in a continuous loop by accident (i wouldn't mind if you could leave the conversation midway, but if you get caught in the loop you have to go through all of the dialogue choices again).

A tip for improving the combat significantly is to set your teammates to only use defensive abilities. That way liara won't waste float on a normal geth soldier when a destroyer is coming around the corner but you also don't have to babysit them completely. It also better encourages you to move your team mates to defensive positions, if i'm ordering them to use an attack i figure i may as well tell em where to hide while you're at it. I'm playing in Hard atm and have only died once due to playing with the jumpjets in the mako and accidentally throwing myself off a bridge. Fortunately there are higher difficulties but tbh with my current tactics i doubt it'll be too much of a challenge (Me as a beefy soldier, liara and tali, perfect combo).

I only hope the sequel makes it to the PC a little faster this time...
