Tragic as this undoubtedly is it is hardly news. Data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive reveals a shocking human toll: there is a mass shooting – defined as four or more people shot in one incident, not including the shooter – on five out of every six days, on average. There were 372 mass shootings in the US in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, it is what Americans do.

Rate of fire sounds to slow to be an AR or AK and they can both empty their standard mags in about 3s - so either they have 100rd mags and I am hearing the resultant beat from a reflected sound in that video OR I think we could be looking at a belt fed LMG (there are plenty of them that could be stolen from around the strip).

Them shots was real close, people around the guy fliming this surely got hit for sure.
Also getting new reports on twitter that there are shots fired at the Bellagio Hotel and other sites in Las Vegas.
Also, reports of three "asian" type of males, they mean "arabs" and one white male.
All unconfirmed so far.

Radio says the shooter is down, I'm hoping this is a lone nutter and not multiple shooters. Multiple shooters means most likely Islamic terror and I'm not sure Trump will have a very measured response to that. America is a more attractive target under Trump because they know he is more likely to give them the fight they want.

You make a good point. Whenever there is a mass shooting, the answer coming from the states is always "this wouldn't happen if more people were armed".
Maybe arm the casino workers as a good starting point?
In the future, they will probably have AI drones with machine guns.

Another happy day in the land of the free, and the home of the my-goodness-we-seem-to-get-an-awful-lot-of-shootings-over-here-for-some-reason-don't-we-I-wonder-why-that-could-be.
Rate of fire doesn't match up with an M16 at full rate of fire anyhow. Hard to say really beyond that. The delay between volleys is longer than a quick mag change so could be right about being belt fed or a drum mag.

So tragic but how can you take a gun into event like this surely they should have body and bag checks but I think I read shots were fired from hotel so no stopping that

I've just realised two friends of mine are in vegas at the moment. I hope they're ok.
All police reports say a single shooter and they are down. This just shows you the carnage that a single automatic weapon can cause.
I am on the fence about gun ownership in the US but I think time and again it has been proven that automatic weapons have no place in society. These are battlefield weapons and just cannot be justified for sports, hunting or personal protection.
The problem is that the genie is out of the bottle. Even with a blanket ban now there are thousands of automatic weapons already out there.
