Is this stuff relevant any more?

I rememebr 5 years ago if I got them wrong my drive would not boot up at all, these days, it's a lot simpler than that, I've never needed to configure the jumpers in my drives, ever. None of my drives even have jumpers.

But drives till come with instructions for jumper settings.

Am I missing something here?

Yeah they are pretty redundant now that SATA is only one device per cable. The only thing you need to change is the order the BIOS uses the drives in, to make sure the OS disk is first.

sata ports, you will notice, still come in pairs, a master and a slave, but you don't need to touch the jumpers at all.

ide always annoyed me with all that garbage.
