Master/ Slave problem

I have two hard drives in my system, one a solid state which I use as master, and the other a Samsung EcoGreen F2 1.5TB SATA which is used as a slave /storage.
All OK until recently, when booting up windows XP (installed on both drives)
it keeps defaulting to the old Samsung hard drive, unless I F12 it and choose my solid state drive which is at number one on list, also in the bios, as master and on the motherboard (GA-P43-ES3G) plugged into SATA 1
Why would this happen and why do I have to keep F12ing it to boot up my solid state?
Not a great effort to press the old F12, I know, but you know how these things get to you...........
Cheers

Do you need the XP installation on the Samsung? If not then just remove the boot files from the disk so that the system has no option but to boot from the SSD.
