Hi All

Just had sky broadband installed, and have been playing around with it the last few days. We have moved into a fairly large house, with multiple extensions, and a master socket in an upstairs bedroom - great !

I have also been speaking to several engineers at Sky CS, and we have found the following things out :

1 . On an extension socket in the living room, I get 2.5mb

2 . On the master socket I get 2.0mb

3 . On the test socket I get 5.75mb :D

Obviously with the router plugged into the test socket, the phones dont work elsewhere in the house.

What is the best solution to allow the other extensions around the house to work, but also to allow the router to be plugged into the test socket , as it were . An I-plate ? or other type of adaptor ?

Any help gratefully appreciated

hmmm you can change the front facing plate however there are some rules and regulations you need to check up on before you do this - also you need to be hush hush if sky ask you about it or even bt and if you are ever having an engineer out youll have to change it back lol

depending on the house extensions working im not sure how that works buts its common norm that test socket should give you better speeds

An Iplate is exactly what you need. I've been using a filtered faceplate since long befere BT started making one and the BT engineer that came round to install Infinity was quite impressed that we had installed our own.

Your free to change the faceplate and extention wireing, it's the bit of the NT5 master socket that's screwed to the wall and the external wireing comeing into it that you can't touch.

It may be that there is nothing wrong with the wireing, it could just be picking up noise. So replacing it could be pointless.

In any case if you use a filtered faceplate your extension wireing won't effect your speeds no matter what condition their in or what noise their picking up.
