One person is by no means everyone.

Can't expect many people to reply at 0.33am and in a very quiet part of the forum.

Are Mastodon the new Tool which equals The Emperors New Clothes?
I listened to four Mastodon albums on the trot earlier this year and they did nothing for me.
I can remember that the very next album I put on was Fear Factory Dehumanizer (which was recommended on here) and that hit my buttons.
I will give this new album a go but I won't hold my breath.

The vocals are awful, and they prevent me from listening to the rest of the music.

And i'll have to sit through them playing just to see Tool :/

The vocals vary throughout the album though, have a listen to Colony Of Birchmen.

To be fair, Vocals can make it or break it for people on whether they like an album, i for one LOVE Mastodon, but it took me a few listens for the vocals to sink in.

Although to be honest, with a name like Mastodon what would people be expecting vocals wise?

Anyways back on topic, Mastodon's new album kicks arse, and the guest vocalists of Josh Homme, Scott Parker (neurosis guy) and Cedric (Mars Volta) really add to the songs in question (Colony of Birchmen, Crystal Skull and Siberian Divide)

This album is highly recommended as its a natural progression of their music i feel, you can hear the step up on every album.

Sorry, as you can tell i love Mastodon to bits!!

Saw them at Mean Fiddler in February 2005, I-M-M-E-N-S-E live!! :D

P.S Dmpoole, regarding Fear Factory, do you mean the Demanufacture album?? ;)

People seem to get so hung up on vocal style,if the songs are as well structured and interesting to listen to as they are on this album, then I can live with just about any vocal style, the drumming alone is worth the cd asking price.

It's the sort of music that has to be listened to closely, headphones on,lyric sheet to hand, glass of red!:D your're efforts are rewarded with an epic rollercoaster of a journey!

Trouble is I keep spilling the red! it's those involuntary spasms of air drumming!:D

Haha, yeah Brann Dailor is an amazing drummer, even Dave Grohl has proclaimed him as the best drummer in the music business right now!

Glad you like Blood Mountain, its unreal, i like how Brent Hinds sings more on this one too, Sleeping Giant, The Wolf is Loose and Crystal Skull are my faves on this one.

:)

It's difficult to name a favourite track or tracks for me,each listen seems to reveal something new,the opening 3 tracks are certainly very strong, sleeping giant being one of my faves too.

The air drumming always seems to kick in during 'colony of Birchmen',dunno why, maybe it's the simplest song rythmically and appeals to my bludgeoning, caveman like understanding of rythm! :D
