Hi all

My mate has a hole buring in pocket and want a pre built system, but does not need a monitor, will be used for gaming, i dont know whats hot and whats not with cpus, and how much mem you need ect

Thanks

Will get more bang for buck if you build it yourself, is that possible\an option?

What will the PC be used for and what monitor does he have as this can decide on a GPU brand.

50 series is out at the end of the month (30th of Jan) if he can wait that long

I would build it for him, but he was worried about if anything goes wrong, either with me building it, or aftercare support if it has any issues

Potential nightmare if something goes wrong, he's right it's not worth straining your friendship.

AM5 is the way to go will give you plenty of future upgrade options, below is a capable 1440p gaming pc.

I've reconfigured the standard build to 32gb 6000mhz memory, GPU to a 7800xt and got a 2tb m2 while getting rid of the SSD but you can configure how you wish.

Money left over for keyboard and mouse.

My basket at OcUK:
  • 1 x OcUK Gaming Oxygen - AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, GeForce RTX 4060Ti Gaming PC (SKU: FS-1BZ-OG) = £1,413.05
    • Case: 1 x APNX Creator C1 ChromaFlair Mid Tower Case
    • Memory: 1 x Kingston FURY Beast EXPO RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C36 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit
    • Graphics Card: 1 x SAPPHIRE PULSE AMD Radeon™ RX 7800 XT Gaming Graphics Card with 16GB GDDR6, AMD RDNA™ 3 architecture

if i spent £1500 and got a 7500f and a 7800xt i'd be furious lol
BUT this is the pre build world

explain to him that the warranty situation would potentially be better on parts upto 10 years, than on a pre build

And then should he provide that tech support also for the next 10 years which is only the PSU, most parts are 3 years.

Pre builds don't get the credit they deserve imo, built , fully tested ,free returns and tech support for about £300.

Effectively £8.33 per month or £2 per week which is nothing for that type of cover.

I've been in this situation before myself, if the guy is willing to build and deal with things himself with some guidance? Grand.

If he's going to be on the phone constantly, absolutely not. It isn't worth it, you'd drive yourself nuts.

yer im not crapping on pre builds, just saying if you made the system his self he would get a lot more. also just the spec
the two system below would be better just because of the 4070s

this would be a faster system
and this

First one is AM4 so no future CPU upgrades available and the second pc is £160 more than I specced and half the storage but plenty of options if you don't mind spending.

he as zero interest in working on a pc or he would build one so AM4 would be fine. the 5700x3d is faster than a 7500f at gaming

the second PC as a better CPU and GPU, if he must spend around £1500 on a pre build better is better

Dropping in a CPU or GPU isn't the same as getting someone to build it for you I bet he would ask his friend then. Second pc the 7500f is 100mhz slower as a 7600 but without the onboard gpu, miniscule performance difference

Yes I agree better GPU but your paying for it ,at the end of the day it's down to the buyer, but it's good to have options.

That's why we're here debating brother

yes a agree completely, All i was saying is if he's the kind of guy that doesn't want to mess about with building and or upgrading then the cheapest system is actually the fastest

5700x3d / 4080Super

I would build it for him, but he was worried about if anything goes wrong, either with me building it,
With that alone i would avoid doing anything other than point hin in the direction of a suitable pre-built that's done and has warranty.
Without been nasty, i wouldn't be asking something of someone unless you're 100% confident in the guy/woman which to me sounds like he doesn't for you, which is a shame so i would avoid at all costs...ask budget, Send him some links and be done.

He went out and purchased one from the enemy, after telling him not to...

Just means you dodged a bullet of potential tech support hell tbh.

If he isn't willing to listen to you about something that simple, I could see him being a nightmare with anything else. If he asks anything in the future just tell him to contact the company he purchased from as you wouldn't want to advise on their products.
