hey

Right my mate has just passed his test literally a few days ago. Hes always driving like a berk and he took a corner doing about 50mph into a really narrow road (about the width of a drive thru).
The weather was perfect but i dont think many cars can take a corner at that speed and make it with a driver whos only just passed his test 4 days ago.

He ramped up the kerb and ran into one of those elctrical boxes on the side of the road. We've all been looking at his car and it looks pretty messed up.
The bonnet in now a pyramid shape, his front cross member in bent in, rad is alrite but a little bit of damage, front bumper is hanging off and it looks as if his nearside wing has been knocked back abit.
He also says if hes driving at around 50-60mph his car doesnt "turn". It obviously does turn but i should imagine his tracking or something is way out.

The car only cost him £800 and is insured fully comp. Do you think the insurance company will just write it off? Sorry i cant put up any pics but just a rough guess.

cheers :)

Tha car will be an immediate write-off, and a big increase in his premium next year.
And being honest the prat deserves a big hike in his premium to keep idiots like that off the bloody road!! What would happened if there was a pedestrian walking along that road? The idiot needs a reality check, hopefully this crash will give him one.

Sounds like a write off to me too

As for the not turning comment at 50 or 60mph - it probably will turn just not nearly as sharply as he would like. If you try to turn quickly at those speeds the car will just understeer

My thoughts exactly, i bet he was braking hard mid corner too, shifts all the weight forward, totally unbalances the car, makes the front end want to keep going forward no matter what you do with the steeringwheel.

If he does insist on driving like that on get him to attend a some track instruction, or at least a track day so he can try to understand how his car will handle at speed.

Fingers crossed he will have learnt his lesson though!

as the weight shifts forward doesn't that make the front grippier? More weight on the wheels?

no weight over the back wheels - car oversteers into a hedge

also i would imagine the front would understeer if all the weights been shifted to it, but dont hold me on that one :p

Hope so, and should get done for reckless driving. How on earth he expects a commuter car to turn at high speeds  He doesn't own a rally car, and even if he does he should drive like a idiot. Oh he if he carries on like that he'll be dead (I knew a few like that and couldn't care less when they ended up smooshed into the car)

His increase in premium plus the excess he'd have to pay would come to more than his car is worth, so it really isn't worth him claiming, be cheaper just to buy a new car or fix his current one with parts from a scrappy.

The fact that insurance increase + excess in the case of accident > value of a cheap car is the reason it really isn't worth going fully comp unless your car is worth a couple of K plus.

as he hit that electrical box the police see him and checked all his paper work. They breathalized him and sent him on his way so i suppose he has to tell the insurance company because of the damage to the box.

I told him not to, just get a new bumper and bonnet from the scrappy but he wouldnt listen :(

I think you should ram him at 60mph, so he knows just what a piece he really is.

Also tell him to claim it - I want his insurance to go up so high that he can't afford to ever drive again.

im not ramming him in my ibiza :( lol.

funny thing is im TPFT on my y reg ibiza, but hes fully comp on his r reg fezzy lol. My insurance is already £1240 a year with pass plus :(
