Mates new Tat, what do you think?

Looks like some kind of poorly drawn Conan cartoon.
Does it have any relevance to his interests/life? (Part time job as a samurai snake slayer?)
I feel sorry for him tbh, especially if he reads this thread.

You posted on this forum about tattoos hehe

Most of these people can't see beyond their up turned nose.

I'm Right Posh me !!!

On a serious note i thought Tatts were for women & there's certainly none of those on these boards :)
Also i am your resident Ghetto grandad & have old blue tatts done in prison with an old javelin & stail blood. The webbing on my face is a bit hard to hide but nobody sees my body sleeve of popeye the sailor man.

My point was that no respectable company would want any customer seeing one of their employees in such a state. Most employers would be given such a bad impression of him at the job interview due to the monstrosities on his arm that they would definately think twice about employing them, and they'd be right to, because he looks like a gipsy.

Utter, utter rubbish.

I work for a very respectable company, in a customer facing role, and I train members of the public one to one. I wear a t-shirt to work and i've got tattoos on both forearms. My right forearm is pretty much full, and I've got two on my left forearm. I've never had a negative comment from a customer about my arms, but I have had a fair few positive ones.

Utter, utter rubbish.

No it isn't. As a very easy going employer, I would still never employ anyone in a customer facing role with visible tattoos. Despite what you would like to think, many, many people find them distasteful. Unfortunately, I have learned this the hard way by employing a good friend who is a hard-working bloke and a real asset as far as performance goes.

Unfortunately, I lost a few key accounts who didn't like coming to my premises in case they had to deal with him. Some people are intimidated by this sort of thing and whilst that is not the fault of the tattoo bearer, it is reality nonetheless.

Hmm where are his tattoos located?

Not seen him for a couple of years so he may have more but, at the time, his back, chest and arms were covered in one, big tattoo. Took 6 months to finish and he one competitions with it - it was awesome! Even with a long sleeved shirt on, however, some of it was visible at his neck and wristline. He often liked to wear a short sleeved shirt though as he was proud of his tattoo and enjoyed seeing peoples reaction good or bad.

Couldn't he just... keep it fully covered at work though so clients didn't see?

Well, as I said, you can see it over his neck and wristline even with a shirt on.

It wasn't until a while after he left that we discovered people weren't coming back because of him.

He since split up from his wife and young daughter and moved away. Wouldn't mind knowing what he is up to these days.

In fairness, that is towards the extreme end. If it's not covered by a long sleeved shirt and/or you don't cover it up, obviously things may happen. But for example my tattoos will never, ever affect my career, because I can wear long sleeves and cover it.

Ah but the point of the poster you replied to when you said "Utter, utter rubbish" was that there would be trouble if they were seen. Now you seem to be agreeing that would be the case, in which case your earlier comments seem a tad overbearing now.

You also said that you wear a t shirt to work and at least one of your arms is pretty much full so it seems weird that you would come out with the "utter utter rubbish" comment and now go on to admit that there might be problems if you dont cover it up.

Not picking a fight, just getting mixed messages regarding your own standpoint on this which seems to have changed a bit since your initial reaction to the post by Ben M

I still think it's utter rubbish. Being tattooed does not stop anyone getting jobs.

Being tattooed to an extreme extent is a different kettle of fish.

no respectable company

Untrue.

Codswallop.
They're on his arms, not his face. He can wear long sleeves if it bothers the customers.

Most employers would be given such a bad impression of him

Piffle.
I don't know many people who turn up to interviews in t-shirts.

monstrosities on his arm that they would definately think twice about employing them

Bobbins!
They wouldn't even see them - see above.

he looks like a gipsy.

I'll give him that one.

My point still stands - I've had tattooed forearms since I was barely over 18, and having worked in a variety of jobs in retail shops, a newspaper's art studio, a print studio, a bank, a warehouse, a factory... never had any problems. I have worn short sleeves in every single one of these environments on a regular basis too.

If someone's got tattoos on the face/neck/hands then that's different, and will restrict your employment opportunities.
