I doubt it. Huddy's an ace bloke and it'll take more than that for his kid to lose respect for him.

You know what is embarrassing to see? People who criticise others over the knowledge they have but the other person doesn't. I'm sure Huddy knows how to do things which are basic to him, that you have no idea about.

Thanks iCraig, that's a nice thing to say and very appreciated :)

Now I have to go back into class now.. damn shorts won't go up past me knees :p

It's ironic how you insult peoples' intelligence, but you exhibit a very childish way of doing it and come off as someone quite dim. :)

What? He replied to my argument with a perfect example of my point so I wrote down my reaction (I rolled my eyes and sighed). At least try to have some degree of fact in your posts.

.. what because I used "your" instead of "you're" haha

His reply was perfectly readable and everybody knew he meant you're rather than your. His reply explained as to why he needed to ask for help, and more importantly why he shouldn't be embarrassed by asking for assistance. He's damn right that teaching your kids principles like that is important. What should he of done? Cursed himself for not knowing and explained to his kid that he doesn't know and he's not going to dare ask because he should know already.

But instead, you decide to take a snippet of one part of his post, and undermine it all by trying to negate it with a grammatical error. Trust me, it makes you look petty and childish rather than cleverly making a point.

I would imagine (I may be wrong here) that either Huddy didn't learn these things back in school (not sure when quadratics came onto the National Curriculum)
Huh? You do realise the original problem is nowhere near as hard as quadratics.

I must admit, I found it a little surprising that someone as obviously intelligent as Admiral Huddy wouldn't know how to do this, particularly if he is also a computer programmer.

But as he says, far better to be willing to learn than to pretend you know something when you don't. And showing your kids that you're never too old or wise to learn something new is a lot more worthy of respect than a lot of the things others have posted here.

It's symptomatic of how lazy people have become. Why not just learn the grammar rule? It's one you come across hundreds of times every day, so just learn it!

Huddy has obviously learnt it, otherwise he wouldn't know what you were talking about. He just made a mistake whilst typing it out. :p

Oh damn, yeah, I forgot you never ever make mistakes when typing do you? Sorry. :o

Too true. It's just embarrassing really. Poor kid's gonna lose respect for his dad.
Quite the opposite, no one likes an arrogant ****, and this will also teach the kid that being honest about one's limitations, yet being resourceful is a lot better than being said arrogant ****.

Must suck when your 12-14 year old son asks for help with his maths homework and you have to come on a forum to find out how to do it.

Christ, just crawl back into your bed/hole whatever, the guy came on asking for some help and you take it as an invitation to have a dig. Got issues? I think so.

I would just like to add that I’m not ashamed of being academically an underachiever. I flopped at school, my maths and English are poor and I left with nothing apart from a CSE grade 1 but I got on by using my common sense and knuckling down. Life isn’t always about what you read from text books.

I was always told that if you don’t know something, don’t pretend you do, ask!! Part of my job as a senior project leader is to ask questions. My team and I are not expected to know everything about the business but I’m paid to find out or to delegate to those that do.

When my daughter asked, I admitted I wasn’t sure which is why I posted. From there we deduced how the answer was reached and she was able to achieve her objective. I could have just given her the answer but I wanted her to understand what she doing and why.

I don’t really have to justify myself to anyone really. It’s all very well judging someone you don’t know. I have many qualities as well as traits which I expect none of you would care to know. The most important thing for me is my kids and if I do have to look stupid by asking a forum to get the answer I need for her, then so be it.

:)

Find me help please sir, I'm begging you! It's not my fault, I was abused as a child!

Idiot.

Yeah I realise that the original problem is expanding the brackets and not a hard as quadratics - just typed quadratics without thinking. :)

On a side note, I wouldn't say that solving basic quadratics is a great deal harder though.

Looks like some people have had a bad day... :p

Hes doing well concidering I learnt it 2 years ago and struggled to remember how to do it

Just ignore em ;)

Get a life!

I love people who base their arguments on random assumptions because they can't think up anything decent.

Unless you're going to come up with something interesting to argue against then don't bother, "get a life" is something I'd expect from a 12 year old.

What can I say, I enjoy the feeling that people are getting annoyed over words on a computer screen, Admiral Huddy being the only one that has quoted me with a sensible reply so far.
