Maths help!

This reminds me of analytical maths from last year, which I've forgotten 90% of. :(

What are you studying Dunks?

Anybody who has done a-level maths shouldn't be confused by this surely? Even in gcse mid-high sets you do algebra. The first bit is just substituting in (gcse) and the second you just have to know how to simplify trig powers and use factorials (a-level). If you want to see something crazy go and look up Hilbert space on wikipedia.

After doing a physics degree I noticed something annoying about non mathematical peoples perception of maths, say if you show them some series summation formulae which are fairly simple and easy to understand they will be 'whoa'. If you then show them something properly difficult they will still say 'whoa', even if it is orders of magnitude more difficult than the previous thing. I suppose this is natural but still frustrating, it would be nice if the complexity of a problem was easily seen by all.

And this, boys and girls, is why you shouldn't drink... about 20 years ago this would not only have meant something to me but I would have been able to answer the question. But now, 20 years later, I look at that and the best response I can come up with is... WTF!?
