Hey, GD, can you help me with my maths homework pls?

Bodmas - Brackets Orders Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction that order and youll get the only answer
Why is maths homework in pictures?
Andi.
Remembering that in the order of operations M and D are equal, as are A and S, so any ambiguity there returns you to the order they're writtenBodmas - Brackets Orders Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction that order and youll get the only answer
40,000 posts and you get distracted In which case do you understand the explanation on getting the answer?
Andi.
That's because things like BODMAS are just conventions for getting the 'right' answer to a sum created with it. If you use a different convention to the puzzle setter you are likely to get a different answer.I get different answers depending on which Casio I use...
Looking at the twitter post it seems a lot of the confusion stems from people who 'do the brackets' as you show, versus those who 'eliminate the brackets' and so interpret the 2(4) as having the priority of brackets too.the correct answer is 16. not 1, because the operation order is always left to right.
B O DM AS - if (D and M) or (A and S) follows each other, the left-most operation in the equation is always carried out first.
Therefore:
8 / 2 x (2+2) =
8 / 2 x 4 =
4 x 4 =
16
sigh. the standard of maths these days is appaling...versus those who 'eliminate the brackets' and so interpret the 2(4) as having the priority of brackets too.
