Maths - ln

lun - thats how pros say it

why would you say log :/ i thought that meant log to the base of 10 shortened to lg not ln. They should call it logie though :p

In pure maths the only base you ever really deal with is e, so it makes the most sense just to pronounce ln as 'log' and only specify the base explicitly if you need to.

Notation-wise, ln is usually used to denote the natural logarithm over the domain of real numbers, whereas log is used to denote the complex logarithm, i.e. the extension of the natural logarithm into the complex plane.

Log to base 10 is very rarely used in pure maths :)

I expect there are different conventions in fields such as engineering, but I'm not an engineer :p

Best to say natural logarithm initially then "el en" after that.

If it's strictly calculus/analysis that you're doing than you can just say "log" and everyone will know what you mean.
